Dante's Medical Care
Hello, my name is Blake, and my cat Dante has needed a great deal of medical care over the last week or so.
Short of it is; Dante needs a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) due to bladder stones and a possible bladder perforation.
Break down of costs (rounded up to nearest dollar):
Initial vet stay and catheter placement: $792
Continued Stay at vet during days till surgery: $500
VCA visit: $451
24 hr vet weekend visit: $1761
24 hr night stays till surgery: $1020 ($255/night)
PU Surgery: $1500
Below is a blow by blow of my experience over the week.
3/21
I took Dante into a vet visit as I noticed he was having difficulty in the litter box. At the vet I found out he had urinary stones, and that we would need a catheter placed and would need to spend the night while getting flushed.
3/22
Dante escaped his cone over night and pulls his catheter out, I am informed if he urinates enough he won't need a new one placed. Around 1pm I receive a call from the vet saying that Dante needs an emergency surgery as they couldn't replace the catheter and he may have a perforation. I go to the emergency pet hospital and they state the cost to be $8k, and suggest economic euthanasia if they can't place another catheter, I refuse. They are able to place the cath again and I return him to the original vet for an over night stay (due to them being willing to work a payment plan out with me).
3/23
Once again Dante escapes his cone in the night, pulls his cath and IV out they are able to place new ones. Vet suggests that he needs constant supervision and that he should be taken to the 24hr vet clinic till Monday.
3/25
Dante has two good nights without any escape or pulling his cath, to save on cost he will be spending the day at Vet clinic and the nights at the 24hr clinic till his urethra is healed enough for his surgery.
Surgery date set for: 3/29 at 8am.
