Dan's New Trike

Donation protected

On Thanksgiving Day, Dan Cadmus, 68, the retired owner of Linnton Feed & Seed, found his recumbent tricycle had been stolen off his front porch.  We live in a tough neighborhood, Brentwood-Darlington.  A year ago, we had our car stolen right out of our driveway.  This is different, though, because Dan has Parkinson’s Disease.  That trike was Dan’s wind-in-his-hair freedom. Riding it is the only time he feels the ease and grace of mobility, the exhilaration of his body moving through space without the fear of falling.  He is a different man without it.

The trike was purchased about 3 years ago for $1725 from Adam Admundsen at Different Spokes.  Collaborating with several manufacturers, Adam and his partner Don provide recumbent bicycles and tricycles to riders who deal with physical challenges.  They work with paraplegics, people afflicted with MS, and other balance issues like Parkinsons.  It turns out this particular set of movement of the muscles is good for people with Parkinson’s-like symptoms.

Even though Adam has generously offered Dan a loaner, we need dependable security first.  Dan needs a new tricycle, of course, but also a trike storage locker for our front porch.

Please help us spread the word and get Dan a new tricycle so he can feel the joy of living in his own skin again.  Dan is a colorful character and many people love him and know him from Linnton Feed & Seed, where he was the proprietor for 15 years.
