I write this with tears in my eyes and a broken heart, unfortunately on 04/08/2017 my soul mate, my best friend, my shoulder to cry on and my husband Daniel Kitching passed away. I don't how I'm going to find the strength to move forward, but know that I have to for our 3 beautiful amazing children. I would firstly like to say thankyou so much to everybody who helped us raise money to prolong Danny's life. Unfortunately he was taken far too soon. Secondly Danny made his last wishes known and asked that any money that was raised was to be put in a trust fund for his children. Danny said this was to benefit the children, including enabling them to achieve their education, goals and dreams as he was no longer here to provide for them. Thirdly if you have donated to our fund and would like your money returning please get in touch by Saturday 19th August and funds will be returned. Lastly a massive thankyou for everybody's support.
My name is Kimberley Kitching aged 34 from Hull. My husband Danny aged 35, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2015. In September 2015, he underwent major surgery to remove the tumour. At this stage, we were told that the cancer was very aggressive, it had already spread to his lymph nodes & perforated his bowel. The consultant advised that the cancer was no longer curable, but could be managed through intense chemotherapy.
For the last 20 months Danny has received two types of chemotherapy. The treatment was initially administered intravenously every three weeks, followed by 9 days of tablet chemotherapy. Danny was positive and with his own coping mechanisms, managed to overcome the sickness and other side effects he endured. When the first 6-month cycle of chemotherapy ended, Danny was given a 3-month break from treatment. However, within this time, Danny became unwell & after further scans was advised that the cancer had progressed & would have to resume treatment.
Again, Danny endured a further 3 months of treatment with the same positive approach, unfortunately only to be told that the treatment was no longer working. Without any delay, his chemotherapy was changed to an alternative drug, to be administered every two weeks along with 9 days tablet form. Danny remained positive, drawing comfort from our two daughters Demi-Jay 15, Sienna 7 & our son Ajay 14. Within 2 days of commencement, he was admitted to hospital with Ascites (build-up of fluid in the abdomen that the stomach lining is no longer absorbing). He was admitted a further three times, finally resulting in an abdominal drain.
These last three months have been a very emotional & testing time for my family, we aim to stay strong and to those on the outside they would not know that we are going through this terrible ordeal. Demi-Jay has already sat a GCSE and passed, Ajay is about to start a new technical school and Sienna keeps her own diary at school, which she writes in daily with her thoughts, whether she is sad or happy. Her teacher counsels her depending on what she has written.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday 23rd May 2017, we received the devastating news from his consultant that the chemotherapy was not effective & that there are currently no further treatments available via the NHS. After researching, we have located private clinics that may be able to offer further treatments at a cost. We are aiming to reach an initial target of £55,000 to give Danny the chance of further medical assistance. Any donations you feel able to give will be received with enormous gratitude.
