Help Danny Infantino Get His Honeymoon Back! (Medical+Travel)
Early in 2015, Pinehurst NC guitarist Danny Infantino and his then fiancé Seren Lyerly began planning their wedding for the coming May. Along with the wedding, of course, came honeymoon planning, and the pair booked flights, a car rental, and hotel reservations for Italy, set to depart about a week after their wedding.
In March, however, Danny and Seren were met with an unexpected challenge--Danny was diagnosed with stage III chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The progression of CLL is stalled with chemotherapy, but it cannot be cured at this time. (To read more about CLL, please visit The American Cancer Society). Danny is not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant.
A week before their big day, Danny and Seren learned that he would be starting chemotherapy immediately (in fact, it began 8 am the morning the day after their wedding.) Because of the severity of the situation, Danny's oncologist ordered that he must not travel any further than a few hours's worth outside the area--and certainly not to Europe.
The hotel reservations were easily cancelled with no penalty, but the flights were non-refundable, meaning that Danny was forced to forfeit the airfare along with his much-anticipated trip to the land of his ancestry.
Despite being saddened by this development, Danny and Seren's wedding was a joyful, loving and celebratory occasion. The newlyweds managed to escape for a short trip to Wilmington NC.
Danny is now approaching his 6th round of chemotherapy, after which he will learn if the leukemia has gone into remission. He has responded well to the treatment so far, his only hiccup being a week long stay in the hospital with a bacterial infection of the blood due to lowered immunity caused by the chemo.
During the past several months, Danny has faced his cancer diagnosis and chemo with amazing strength, courage, and good humor. He has often expressed a hope that he will be able to see Italy once again in his lifetime. However, mounting medical expenses have made it a less-than-practical expenditure.
The above goal is the minimum amount to cover a round-trip economy flight for two from RDU to Milan, Italy. The trip will occur in the spring of 2016.
Danny Infantino's musical talent has touched many people's hearts throughout the years, whether it be with his performance or through his instruction.
