On Thursday, January 3rd, our beloved friend Danny suffered a stroke in his apartment. Danny is currently in the hospital with a long road of recovery ahead.

If there's one thing everyone knows about Danny, he's a tough SOB. A staple of of Orchard Street (many call him the Mayor), Danny is always there to greet you with a smile and is the first to lend a helping hand.

Many in this community have received help from Danny, and now it's our time to help him. Your donations will go directly to Danny helping with Medical + Recovery Costs.

We will continue to add updates to this page as we have them.

Update 1

Hi Everyone - THANK YOU so much for the donations and the ongoing support - below is an update on Danny. We will continue to post updates as we have them.

Team LES Update –
(Written by Mark Muscarella)

Danny has celebrated his 1 week anniversary!! He is still receiving the most amazing care at Cornell Medical ICU. We are in for transfer down the hall, but are happy for every moment we get with this fabulous team. Danny is having a good day today and progressing, including eating solids and drinking. He is starting to get mobility in the right side of the body and speech clarity is improving (he is strong function of his left side). We just finished with the therapist and did well – she believes we need more time before we start with acute therapy (aggressive).

Some of the celebrated moments from this week would be.

The first day when the doctors walked in to see the exquisitely dressed crew from The Cast and The Great Frog gathered around, the expressions were priceless!

On Tuesday (while waiting for swelling in the head to go down)… Nurse asked “So is he someone really famous???” I swear he smiled!

On Wednesday Danny was asked if he knew where he was and responded “Central Booking”!

All sounds great, however recovery is not a straight line thing, and we have a long way to go to get our good friend back on the street.

History for all that want it - And so please don’t have the ask the nurses!

Danny suffered a stroke – brought on by a carotid artery and then correspondingly got a clot near the brain. The doctors at Cornell performed emergency surgery to put a stint in the right neck and removed as much of the clot as possible.

The ICU staff has been amazed by the number of visits and interest in this man Daniel Coffey – please be polite and respectful of the hard work they have done and continue to do to help our friend. Danny does love visits, and is very aware of voices in the room. He may not always and sit up, open his eyes and acknowledge it.... but he knows!
