Danielle's Recovery Help

Donation protected
Hello all loved ones,

I am Naomi Sanow, Danielle's oldest sister, and I am looking to raise some money to help her family of 6 during the recovery process of her craniotomy.

Danielle Sanow is a mother of 4 children- Daijah (9), DeShaun (8), Everly (18 months) and Nora (1 month).  She is also engaged to Travis MacRunnels with a proposed wedding date of August 2017.

Danielle has suffered with ear infections all of her life and we found out  Novemeber 2012 she actually had developed a rare ear disease called Acquired Cholesteatoma.

Cholesteatoma is a cyst-like growth that grows in the ear.  It is not a cancerous condition but is important because it can lead to serious complications such as permanent deafness and life-threatening illnesses such as meningitis.  Untreated, a cholesteatoma will slowly grow and expand. As it grows it can eat into (erode) and destroy anything in its path to the brain cavity.

In November of 2012 Danielle was refered to an ear, nose and throat specialist.  Following her appointment they proceeded to schedule her first surgery in April of 2013.  At this surgery they cut her ear completely open and saw that the disease had started to eat away portions of her ear.  They ginded out the infection/disease and found that it had completely ate away her middle hearing bone causing slight hearing loss in her right ear.  They then put a prosthetic middle hearing bone in, cleaned out the infection and closed her ear up.  Within 4 days after the surgery her body rejected the prosthesis, she had an allergic reaction to the stitches and her ear became severly infected.  This caused her to be hospitalized for 4 more days.

She was then referred to a different specialist who proceeded to do 4 more surgeries within the following 2.5 years- one on her left ear and 3 on her right ear.  Each surgery consists of opening the ear completely up and grinding out the infection.  They had also attempted to try another prosthetic hearing bone.  Along with all of that they did an skin graft from her inner arm in order to reconstruct the inside of her ear.  So far that prosthesis has stayed in her ear.

Then in November of 2015, Danielle was unknowingly 4 weeks pregnant and she went in for her 6th surgery- this one on her right ear again with the intention of taking a skin graft to rebuild her ear.  When they opened her ear up they had noticed that the disease had eaten through her skull and her brain was herniated through the hole it had eaten through.  This caused them to take an even bigger skin graft so they could place some of her skin over the hole to prevent the possibility of the disease moving back towards her skull.  The possibility of the infection/disease reaching her brain could have caused meningitis.

When Danielle was 34 weeks pregnant she had went in because she had a severe headache that lasted days.  Her surgeon thought she had symptoms of meningitis and proceeded with a spinal tap.  Thankfully meningitis was not her dianosis.

Danielle then went in for a follow-up appointment just 3 weeks after she had her fourth child.  They did a CT scan which noted that the disease had eaten a larger portion of her skull and that her brain was herniated even more into her ear canal.  So they have scheduled a Right Middle Fossa Craniotomy with a right transmastoid approach to excise an encephalocele on September 8th, 2016. So they will basically be opening up the right side of her skull and placing a metal plate to hopefully prevent further erosion of her skull.

Danielle will be in ICU for the following 4-6 days and unable to bend or lift for the following 6 weeks.  Which will result in lots of childcare expenses, household expenses and her fiance will have to miss some work with no available PTO.  Danielle has not been able to work for almost 2 years due to all of the surgeries and her growing family, so therefore she does not have any income coming in either.  Hospital expenses, household expenses, traveling and lodging expenses and childcare expenses are quickly accumulating already.   We are reaching out to family to see who could come and at least watch her youngest two during the week, but many of them are busy with their own lives.  Danielle is going to be unable to care for her youngest two, clean, cook, drive, etc. for at least 6 weeks.

I am asking for any help you can provide to help my sister and her family during this rough time.  I appreciate you for taking the time out to read about her medical situation and we appreciate all the prayers sent her way.

Thank you all and have a blessed day!
