On July 6th, my little sister, Dani Taylor Williams (34), had emergency open heart surgery to repair an Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). SCAD, is an emergency condition that occurs when a tear forms in a blood vessel in the heart. When the tear occurs inside the artery, blood pools between the inner and outer layers of the artery; this trapped blood can form a blood clot, slowing or even stopping blood flow to the heart. This is a rare condition and it is even rarer to survive the initial episode. Basically, she is very lucky to be alive.

The causes of SCAD are still uncertain, but her surgeon believes it is linked to having recently given birth. Doctors say some women may experience SCAD again even after it has been successfully treated; this can happen shortly after the initial episode or even years later. 


I am happy to report she is home from the hospital and doing well, but she has a long road of recovery ahead of her; physically she is getting stronger every day, but one of the hardest things for Dani to deal with is not being able to hold and care for her two young girls, Addie Mae (19 months) & Emery James (4 months).



She and her husband are facing a financial hardship with medical bills, increased childcare costs, transportation, you name it …
