The Arcadia Police Department will be hosting a fundraiser for two local children. On May 6, members of the community will be “Arrested” for a worthy cause to benefit 7 year old Daniel Torres and 5 five year old Joey Bencks. Both Daniel and Joey have been diagnosed with leukemia. The money raised will be split between the two local families.

On August 17, 2015, Sandra Muniz received the heart breaking news her 6 year old son Daniel had leukemia. “Philadelphia Chromosome Leukemia” an aggressive cancer that requires intense treatment for the first two years. Every three weeks Daniel is admitted to All Children’s Hospital having a surgery to inject chemo therapy into his spinal column. But cancer hasn’t stopped Daniel, or even slowed him down if you ask his mom. He loves to play sports, including baseball, soccer and football. Around the house he enjoys cooking and helping his mom clean.
On January 21, 2016, 5 year old Joey Bencks family received the same heart breaking news. Joey was diagnosed with acute monocytic leukemia and the following month with “MDS” or myedysplastic syndrome. Also a very aggressive form of Leukemia, “AML” must be treated just as aggressive. Joey spends generally a month at a time in the hospital, only able to go home for 4-5 days at a time. Joey must also undergo a bone marrow transplant the beginning of June this year. Prior to her undergoing treatment Joey loved to swim, often called the 'fish of the family'. She loves the outdoors along with the normal girly things like dressing up and playing with dolls.

Anyone interested in participating in the fundraiser will be arrested and taken to “Jail”, where they will have to raise bond money in order to be released. Anyone wanting to make a donation can stop by the Arcadia Police Department to donate or go to www.gofundme.com.
So tonight, when you go home, hug your kids, tell them how much you love them and thank God for good health. Take the time to help those truly in need, it’s what we’re put here to do.
