El día 14 de agosto Daniela ingresó en la Clínica Central del National Institute of Health, de los Estados Unidos. Ha sido incluida en un Protocolo de Investigación sobre aplasia medular. Hemos decidido detener la recaudación pues con los aportes de ustedes, a través de esta plataforma, y de otros familiares y amigos por otras vías, tenemos suficientes fondos para enfrentar los gastos que se presenten durante este tratamiento. Los mantendremos al tanto de los avances. Sabemos del cariño y la preocupación que ha generado la enfermedad de Daniela, de muchas maneras, entre tanta gente en el mundo y en Cuba. Hi everyone, the life of Daniela Muñoz Barroso (22 years) changed radically in December 26, 2016, when doctors diagnosed her with a severe acquired bone marrow aplasia. Since then she was admitted to a hospital in Havana.
At just 22 years old, Daniela is an audiovisual photographer and director. She is in her last year at the University of the Arts in Havana, where she majors in Audiovisual Media Communications. At her young age, she has already directed and produced several audiovisuals in Cuba. She loves traveling with her backpack and her camera on her shoulder to capture the beauty of Cuba. She and her friends have explored a great part of the country of Cuba all while making stops to camp and capture great photos.
In those rare moments when she feels better, and does not have to be transfused, Daniela is trying to continue her studies and she is preparing her degree thesis, along with working on a documentary that she filmed, directed and produced before the disease appeared and is now in the editing phase. Daniela does not stop creating, despite the headaches, the sores in the mouth or the tiredness caused by the disease.
She has been treated according to international standards, but her health has not improved and the disease has not disappeared. The conclusion of the specialists is that her recovery depends on a bone marrow transplant, which could have been done in Cuba if she had compatible siblings, but she does not.
For this reason, to perform the transplant Daniela needs a non-family donor. Cuba does not have bone marrow banks, nor does it have a Bone Marrow Donor Registry that allows finding an identical donor (not family). Hospitals in Cuba perform autologous bone marrow transplants (ie with healthy cells from the person) and transplants between compatible identical siblings, but not transplants from an identical non-familial donor, which is the one Daniela needs.
We have begun negotiations with medical institutions in the United States and Spain to do the donor search and perform the transplant. We are waiting for an answer.
The Hospital Clinic, in Barcelona, has responded that it can assume the complete treatment. However, we do not have sufficient financial resources to pay the price of a complete treatment at this institution, which amounts to 280,000 euros (304,486.00 USD)
Hence, we request your financial support so that we can seek the treatment needed for Daniela at The Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, which includes the patient's medical visits, the transfer and collection of the hematopoietic progenitors, hospital admission for transplant and post-transplant control for 6 months.

Daniela necesita trasplante de médula
La vida de Daniela Muñoz Barroso (22 años) cambió radicalmente a partir del 26 de diciembre de 2016, cuando los médicos le diagnosticaron una aplasia medular adquirida, calificada como severa. Desde entonces ella se encuentra ingresada en un hospital de La Habana. Daniela es fotógrafa y realizadora audiovisual. Estudia el último año de la carrera Medios Audiovisuales de Comunicación, de la Universidad de las Artes de La Habana. Con su corta edad, ha realizado y producido varios audiovisuales en Cuba.
En estos momentos, cuando se siente mejor y no tiene que ser transfundida, Daniela estudia y prepara su tesis de grado, un documental cuya filmación dirigió y produjo antes de que apareciera la enfermedad. Daniela no para de crear, a pesar de los dolores de cabeza, las llagas en la boca o el cansancio provocados por la enfermedad.
Se le han aplicado tratamientos acorde a los estándares internacionales, pero su salud no mejora y la enfermedad no desaparece. Su cura total depende de un trasplante de médula ósea, que se hubiera podido realizar en Cuba de contar Daniela con hermanos/as compatibles, pero no es así.
Por tal razón, para realizar el trasplante Daniela necesita un donante no familiar. Pero Cuba no cuenta con bancos de médula ósea, ni con un Registro de Donantes de Médula Ósea que permita encontrar el donante idéntico (no familiar).
Hemos comenzado gestiones con instituciones médicas de Estados Unidos y España para hacer la búsqueda de donantes y realizar el trasplante. Estamos a la espera de respuesta. El Hospital Clinic, de Barcelona, nos ha respondido que puede asumir el tratamiento completo. Sin embargo, no contamos con recursos financieros suficientes para pagar el precio del proceder en esta institución, que asciende a 280.000 euros. (308,468.00 USD)
De ahí que solicitamos su apoyo financiero para que podamos hacerle el tratamiento a Daniela en este Hospital, que incluye las visitas médicas del paciente, el traslado y obtención de los progenitores hematopoyéticos, el ingreso hospitalario para la realización del trasplante y el control post-trasplante durante 6 meses.

Daniela es una joven cubana alegre, con muchas ganas de hacer y de vivir. Daniela es un tren que no ha podido frenar la aplasia y se merece todo nuestro apoyo.
