Tanya Cardinal, well known in the Ballroom Dance community, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - Neurolymphomatosis = direct infiltration of nerves by lymphoma.
It all started this summer with an innocent back pain. It escalated to paralysis of he right arm, left leg and her face as well as excruciating nerve pain. It also impaired her ability to breathe and communicate. She was bedridden, unable to walk or even move independently and was hooked up to various life support machines and getting worse everyday. After 8 weeks in hospital the doctors finally had a diagnosis. Immediately, aggressive chemo therapy was started.
She is now breathing on her own but there remain many months of treatment and rehabilitation in order to hopefully regain all nerve functions that has been lost and to cure the cancer.
