Daniel Licardo is a former US Navy Special Operations (SEAL) member with over 16 years of experience including combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. He was formally a member of  Naval Warfare Development Group (SEAL Team 6), where he specialized in Red Team  operations and facility vulnerability exercises.   As a SEAL, he executed numerous highly sensitive, classified missions that operated in South America, Europe, and Middle Eastern theaters while conducting high-risk, counter narcotic missions and internal foreign defense missions.

Dan is an accomplished firearms and tactical instructor for many departments, a wonderful father to his young son Ronin and a beloved tribe member of the Adaptive Training Foundation in Texas.

This Labor Day, September 4th 2018, Dan suffered a horrific car accident rendering him in critical condition at a local hospital. Details are still emerging as is the determination on his overall stability.  We do know that he had catastrophic bleeding requiring over two dozen blood transfusions, has lost both of his legs and coded at least once while in the operating room. His condition is tenuous but optimistic currently.

Please consider making a donation to Dan and his family to help offset the cost of medical expenses and what will be a long recovery.  Those that know Dan, know he will fight with every fiber of his being to be there for his son.  Let's stand behind him in the fight.

Another stable day ❤️ Today Dan has mostly slept after having a traction rod placed in his right femur to offload his right hip which will later need reconstruction. There continues to be large groups at bedside and in the waiting room supporting Dan and his loved ones. Two local TV networks have already featured his story and the outpouring of generosity continues to move all parties present. His GoFundMe momentum has not slowed; a testiment to the overwhelming love the community at large has for Dan and his family. A public Facebook page has been set up for further updates, “Stay Strong Dan Licardo.” A blood drive is being hosted in the town of his accident, Flower Mound TX on 9/11. See the public FB page for further updates. Thank you all for your support during this trying time. #DanStrong

Dan remains stable after another long 24 hours. There continues to be a large presence of family, friends and military brothers at the hospital. There was an informative meeting today between family, friends and the wonderful medical team (the Fire Chief leading Dan's extraction), the Emergency Medicine Physician and the attending Trauma Surgeon. The care at this hospital is just unmatched... not only for Dan but for all loved ones at the hospital. Some of the information shared included: "he was the worst I've seen coming out of a car" (Fire Chief), "that crash should have killed most people" (trauma surgeon), there was an amazing medical team of 30-40 people caring for Dan in the ER when he arrived, he received 50-60 units of blood products (which means he lost all of his blood 5-6 times; one of the highest transfusion quantities the surgeon has ever witnessed), and there are multiple surgeries pending (right pelvis, rib fractures, amputation completions, and bilateral hands fractures).

It is believed by all parties involved that many miracles have occurred to aid Dan's powerful will to live. "He's here for some other reason," the orthopedic surgeon stated in foreshadowing the monumental life purpose we all feel Dan is being shaped for. He is out of the first phase of stabilization (minute to minute) and is onto the next phase (day by day). They are watching things diligently including the risk for blood clots, infections, sepsis and organ deterioration (kidneys, lung, heart). "Typically if you can get people out of this phase and to wake up, they have a very high chance of getting out of the ICU," said the lead trauma surgeon. We were instructed that his course will not be linear, "there will be good days and bad days." Today was a good day overall.

The outpouring of generosity and support from those near and far today has been astonishing. Dan and his family are so fiercely loved. Dan’s mother Susan, girlfriend Christen, all friends present today want to sincerely thank you for your prayers and love. Dan is critical, but thank god stable so far. He is still on a ventilator in the ICU but is able to communicate with his eyes, head movements and rudimentary writing with a marker to a white board. He wrote “I’m ok” today after first ensuring the kids involved were ok. The doctors remarked that “Anyone else wouldn’t have made it.” Despite the profound level of trauma he has endured (bilateral subdural hematomas, sternal fracture, multiple rib fractures with flail chest on the left, shattered right hip with massive internal bleeding, right leg above knee amputation, left below knee amputation, cardiac/pulmonary/bladder contusions, right wrist/hand fractures, dozens of fluid/blood product transfusions, etc) he continues to demonstrate grace, courage, strength and resilience despite the most challenging of times. Find peace in knowing he is surrounded by so much love and has the best medical care. I will continue to update you as things progress; as of tonight- he and the family are resting well with a hopeful outcome. Please also know, all funds donated here will be directly transferred to the Navy SEALs fund which is a non-profit; 100% of the funds (aside from GoFundMe fees) will go directly to Dan and his family. Thank you all for your continued support. Keep praying- we have a long journey ahead.
