Dad's Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to read this! This GoFundMe campaign is an attempt to raise funds for my father who was diagnosed with cancer recently.

September 29th was the day things went bad. He had never been to a hospital or doctor in 25 years, but he was terribly sick. He was in a lot of pain, and at this time he just started shaking very badly, and couldn't breathe. It turns out he had sepsis, and they barely saved him.

Being as he had never been sick, he was completely uninsured. After some back and forth, we was finally able to get him some coverage through Ohio Passport, which offered him Medicaid and paid his Medicare premiums.

Over time, he hasn't gotten much better. He's spent time in the nursing home since January 1st, which has caused him to lose his Passport services, as well as Medicaid coverage.

Because of this, we're left with little choices. He has decided to come home, otherwise his retirement would be garrnished to the nursing home, but that means he's without a bed because of a bedbug infestation and being unaware this would happen.

He also has a very large amount of debt from this long ordeal. The hospital debt is well over $100,000 at this point, the cost of medications are causing us to sell things we need to get by, and often go without food due to his required diet.

There are other ways we need help, which the amount raised would contribute to. Both of us require transportation, with myself being disabled, and my father being unable to drive in his condition, without many people to rely on.

A lot of the funding isn't completely urgent, we know the debts can wait, and they're not going to start denying treatment just yet, but it is going to be difficult to pay for either housing and bills or medications, bed, and food requirements depending on the choice father makes.

Our general expenditures aren't high, but neither is our income. Every dollar, even every penny helps at this point. The funding will go towards making up the difference during this hard time where we're unable to meet the monetary means to survive.

The average cost to get him to and from his appointments, depending on how often, and treatments necessary, could range anywhere from $100 to $500 per month. There's no support for Uber or Lyft in our area, so we're pretty dependent on a taxi considering our distance from the hospital.

The cost of medications, as far as currently, isn't high. We're currently looking at around $120 per month for medications, but he will be having an operation soon which will likely require both medical supplies as well as costly medication.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, if you can, please spread it around to others! Any help we can receive would be amazing!
