DA ALAS AL SUEÑO DE JORGE/FLY JORGE

Actualmente, en los bosques fronterizos del norte de Serbia con la Unión Europea (Croacia, Hungría, Rumania), se encuentran viviendo cientos de personas refugiadas a causa de la actual crisis migratoria.
Jorge, de 42 años y nacionalidad cubana lleva más de 17 meses viviendo en Serbia y dos años en la zona de los Balcanes. Es ingeniero en telecomunicaciones, profesión que ejercía con mucho éxito en su Cuba natal, lo que le permitió viajar varias veces a Argentina donde pudo experimentar la libertad y nivel de vida que tanto ansiaba y no podía conseguir en su país por razones políticas y económicas.
Con la esperanza de un futuro mejor, vendió la casa de su abuela que había recibido como herencia y sacó un pasaje hacia Rusia, país donde no les demandan visa a las personas de nacionalidad cubana. Llegó con la esperanza de conseguir algún trabajo y establecerse por un tiempo, pero la situación para los extranjeros no era muy favorable.
Como tantas otras personas que se encuentran en esta misma situación, y a falta de otras opciones, recurrió a las mafias que le ofrecieron cruzarlo a algún país de la Unión Europea a través de una supuesta corta estadía en Montenegro y Serbia, a cambio de una considerable suma de dinero. Jorge decidió tomar este riesgo el cuál no tuvo éxito y se encuentra atrapado en Serbia tras recorrer más de 12.000 km, desde entonces viviendo en condiciones de extrema vulnerabilidad , expuesto a peligros y situaciones en las cuales tiene que luchar por su propia supervivencia para poder cumplir su proyecto migratorio. Se encuentra constantemente expuesto a coacciones de mafias y policías, riesgos de detención, expulsión y abusos que conllevan tratos inhumanos. Todos estos factores se encuentran potenciados, ante la falta de acceso a la justicia. Tampoco tiene derecho a una vivienda digna ni puede recurrir a un hospital en caso de tener problemas de salud.
Para salir de esta situación ha intentado cruzar la frontera Serbo-Húngara por su cuenta innumerables veces sin poder conseguirlo y razón por la cual actualmente se encuentra sin ahorros ni esperanza de poder llegar a España, país donde soñaba establecerse. Debido a las actuales políticas migratorias que incluyen el cierre de fronteras europeas, ese sueño se vió frustrado. También ha sido expulsado innumerables veces de Hungría sin respetarse su derecho a solicitar asilo.
Ante esta situación, y tras un intento fallido de buscar el apoyo de parte del Gobierno Español y de la Embajada Española en Serbia, hemos encontrado que su única alternativa LEGAL es regresar a América Latina, donde espera se le reconozcan sus derechos humanos básicos, tales como la dignidad, vivienda, libertad, trabajo, salud, entre otros; derechos que no se le han dado atrapado en esta frontera, sin perder su objetivo migratorio de poder establecerse algún día en España. Es por eso que necesitamos de su contribución para ayudar a Jorge a llegar a América Latina y comenzar una nueva vida digna donde sus derechos básicos y fundamentales sean cubiertos y la posibilidad de tener un futuro mejor.

Currently, in the border forests of northern Serbia and the European Union (Croatia, Hungary and Romania) lives hundreds of refugee people as a consequence of the current migration crisis.
Jorge, cuban male of 42 years old has been living in Serbia for more than 17 months and more than 2 years around the Balkans. He is a telecommunication engineer, profession he exercised with great success in his home country: Cuba; which allowed him to travel to Argentina several times where he could experiment the freedom and standard of living he've been longing for so long and couldn’t get in his country because of economic and political reasons.
Without losing the hope for a better future, he sold his grandmother’s house that he had received as an inheritance and bought a ticket to Russia, country where cuban people are not required to apply for a visa. He arrived with the hope of getting a job and establish for a while but the situation for foreigners wasn’t that easy.
As many other people in his same position, and in the absence of other options, he had to resort to the mafias who offered to cross him to some country of the European Union after a supposed short stay in Montenegro and Serbia in exchange of a considerable amount of money. Jorge decided to take this risk, which was unsuccessful, and now he’s been trapped in Serbia since then, after touring for more than 12.000km, living in conditions of extreme vulnerability and exposed to dangers and situations where he has to fight for his own survival to accomplish his migratory project. He is constantly exposed to mafias and cops’ coercion, detention risks, expulsion and abuses that involve inhumane treatment. All these factors are strengthened in the absence of access to justice. He doesn’t even have the right to a decent house nor the possibility to access a hospital in case of medical problems.
To try to leave this situation, he tried to cross the Serbian-Hungarian border by himself countless times without succeeding and that’s the reason why he has no more savings or hope to arrive to Spain, country where he dreamed about establishing one day. Due to the current migratory policies that include the closing of the european border, that dreams became frustrated. He was also expelled from Hungary countless times without respecting his right to ask for asylum.
In this situation, and after a failed attempt to seek for support from the Spanish Government and the Spanish Embassy in Serbia, we’ve found his only LEGAL alternative is to come back to Latin America where he expects his basics human rights could be recognized such as dignity, housing, freedom, work and health, among others; rights no one has given him trapped in this border, without losing with migratory goal of establish himself in Spain someday.
That’s why we need your contribution to help Jorge to arrive to Latin America and start a new dignified life where his basic and fundamental human rights can be covered and the possibility of having a better future.
From Escuela con Alma we do not resign ourselves to Jorge having to resort to ilegal alternatives to leave the limbo where he is right now.
