25 Years - Steve's Gift of Life
Donation protected
My brother, your friend, your coworker, your neighbor is celebrating something special this Friday, January 29th 2016. Steve is celebrating the Gift of Life.
25 years ago this Friday a hero selflessly gave life to others in his death. Steve was dying. Diabetes devasted his young body and threatened to take him from this world. But on a January winter night, some man we will never know was an organ donor. His family stood vigil and suffered the greatest loss of their life - their son, brother and family member. Yet somehow amidst their sorrow and grief they chose HOPE. They said YES to organ donation. The strength of that decision takes my breath away and humbles me every time I think of it. How does one do that? In our world kindness and good does exist; this donor is the meaning of that!
My brother was the grateful recipient of a kidney/pancreas transplant that night. His road has not always been easy, but here we are today celebrating 25 years of a gift like no other.
Please help us honor Steve's donor by making a small donation. Donations will go to help La Crosse, Wisconsin area organ donor families.
The actual organ donation process can take some time and families often stay next to their loved ones' bedside; sometimes leaving to even eat or shower is difficult and heartbreaking for these families. While they are in the hospital families are given bags filled with little things to make their stay a bit more comfortable during a very sad & tragic time. They can be filled with toiletries, tissues, snacks, water, journals, pens, crossword puzzles, gum, etc. Our friends at the two wonderful medical facilities in La Crosse will ensure these bags are not only filled with tangible items for these heroes' families, but also love and the spirit of gratitude. The money raised through this campaign will be used for these bags.
What better way to celebrate this milestone (it really is something amazing...25 years) than to provide a small piece of comfort to families in Steve's very own city choosing to save lives in their darkest hours?!
I love my brother. My siblings love my brother. My parents who are no longer with us were able to see their son grow and live because another family did not. For that, how can one not be grateful?
We will always be thankful for the hero we'll never know
"Thank you" doesn't seem sufficient...
Please consider giving to help us express our GRATITUDE for the gift of life Steve has been given. 25 years!
