DETAILED UPDATE!!!!

Aoife's splint was removed as well as her bandage. The rotation flap remains intact with some superficial scabbing at the point of attachment of the flap. The scabs were removed. All sutures were removed. A dressing and soft padded bandage over the elbow was placed. The remaining sutures from the skin flap were removed. The recipient site has had a moderately sized region of devitalized flap tissue that has declared itself fully. The dead portion of the flap was lifted away today which revealed a better healthy granulation tissue beneath. The previously noted deep defect within the frontal sinus has shown progress of filling and is improved since before the skin flap procedure. The doctor had hoped for more flap survival however, he is hopeful that the wound healing can be accomplished with the current treatment. A final closure maybe needed for that deep portion in the future.

Just got off the phone with the Dr. He's very impressed with Aoife! She is/did great with her surgery. They were able to close 98% of her head wound. He is happy with that result. Her leg is heeling nicely as well she will still have bandages on both injuries, just to keep them clean. They used medical grade leaches to promote blood flow, witch I thought was kinda cool. Anyways Dr is really happy with how things are going. Her next visit will be Monday to see how her flap is healing. Please keep her in your prayers. She's not out of the dark yet, but making leaps and bounds towards the light. Thanks everyone for your support.

Please if at all possible make sure she has a vet that is a Specialist. This is a very delicate surgery. I agree with the post about Seattle Vet Specialist in Kirkland. Just a thought. That is if she could even be transferred in her condition. You could call them and talk to them about that. I have hear really good things about this vet. One thing I have never heard of is a vet asking for funds upfront. We are all in love with you little girl.

You might also consider Seattle Vet Specialists in Kirkland. It would make me nervous that anyone, but a specialist works with a brain injury. http://www.svsvet.com/

Please please, don’t use Pilchuck. If you have to wait until tomorrow, call around and find another vet. I don’t know of any other vets that extort funds in advance like Pilchuck. The vet I would recommend: Animal Hospital at Murphy’s Corner, 1700 132nd St SE G, Mill Creek, WA 98012. Their phone number: (425) 316-8387. They are VERY reasonably priced as well as top-notch. Tell ’em Claire sent you. Good luck with Aoife…
