Hey guys. Thanks for taking the time to look over this. I’ve gone back and forth between the idea of starting a GoFundMe to pay for Curtis’s vet bills. It’s something that as a pet owner, I should be responsible for. But you never really prepare to be hit in the face with a giant brick of vet bills.
on December 23rd, I took Curtis to the vet because he was visibly in a lot of pain. He wasn’t quite himself. I figured it was just arthritis, but wanted a vet’s opinion just in case. We took him to Banfield, where they gave him a shot of doggie morphine, then strongly urged that we take him to VCA for an ultrasound. Once we got to VCA, things took a turn for the worst. The ultrasound showed his organs basically floating around in liquid in his abdomen. They pulled a sample of the liquid, and it was blood. He had internal bleeding from his spleen, and they also found a mass. They told us it was cancerous, and had metastasized to his heart and lungs. Even with surgery and aggressive chemotherapy, my sweet boy would only have months left with us. This is when I chose selflessness over selfishness, and made the choice to take his pain away for good.
This is being on top of the holidays has made the burden even harder to bear. Both emotionally, and financially. The bills for both visits including his cremation, was just short of $800. It blows my mind that it is so insanely expensive to end your pets life.
Even if if you can’t donate, please send me a memory of a time where Curtis has made you smile. He was the sweetest, most lovable potato the world has ever known. He was the love of my life. He made the world a little brighter, smellier, and happier, and he will never be forgotten.
