Mental Health Facts:

FACT #1:  9.4% of children and young people in the county of Norfolk are affected by mental health problems, this equates to 10,160 people aged 5-16.

FACT #2: In Norfolk there are over 80,000 people who have a common mental health disorder which is expected to increase by 1,400 by 2025

FACT #3:  1 in 4 Norfolk and Suffolk residents experience some form of mental ill health in any given year.

FACT #4: 75% of lifelong mental health problems develop before the age of 25.  YET only 25-40% of children and young people with mental health difficulties receive input from a mental health professional at all or at an early age.

Our Plan To Change This:

Cup-O-T: Wellness and Therapy Services is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to make mental health support accessible in rural communities at an early stage.

The organisation was formed in December 2017 by myself, Catherine Gray, and I began to see clients in July 2018.  I am a registered Occupational Therapist, and I have worked in mental health for the past 9 years.  I am passionate about decreasing the stigma of talking about how mentally well we are on a day to day basis.

The Cup-O-T dream is to make appointments easy to attend in a comfortable and inviting environment.  We often go to appointments for our mental health which take place in sterile, clinical and medical areas.  This isn't the most relaxing of atmospheres and can be a huge barrier to a person feeling that they can talk when they are struggling.  The distance that we have to travel to these appointments in rural areas is another barrier to receiving timely support.

Our solution to this is to convert a van into a mobile therapy room!  The room will be equipped with comfortable sofas for talking and relaxation sessions, a kitchen area for that all important cup of tea, work spaces for creative activities, and an outside seating area with an awning. In addition to this we will add solar panels to make the van as efficient and environmentally as possible.  We have had amazing feedback on our vision for the van from community events and online discussions.  We are including current clients and community members in the design and creation of the therapy room.  Let us know if you wish to help with painting wood, upholstery etc too!

So... we have secured a personal loan to buy a van. However to fit it out we need some help which is where this crowdfunder comes in.  I am lucky that my husband is a fantastic carpenter and will do all the conversion and installation for free - after work and every weekend!

Here's a list of items that we need help buying so that it can be completed to a good standard and meet the needs of our community:

*Kitchen area: water heater / gas system, oven/hob, sink and taps, tiles, fridge, water pump, pipe and fittings, worktop, wood for unit frame (we are making the units from free pallets), kettle, pans, mugs, cutlery
*Living area: wood for sofa frames, foam and fabric for upholstery, cushions, blankets, table, curtains, coasters, mood/sensory lighting
*Other: Windows, vent, mains installation kit, mains consumer unit, sockets and cables, leisure batteries, electrical test and certification, insulation, flooring, awning, electric step,re-registration costs, solar panels, miscellaneous (nails, screws, tools), vinyl graphics for the outside, service, MOT, tax and insurance.

As you can see, a fair amount to get this right, AND we want it to be complete by Easter!  We will be contacting local businesses to see if they can donate any items to try and keep costs down too, so if you can help with this cause please get in contact.

Please follow the journey of the conversion on social media and we would love for every supporter to come and celebrate with us at the opening event!
