Crow and Queen Housing and Medical

$6,707 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 73 people in 16 months

Due to Joe James "Crow" suffering extensive injuries requiring him to be in the hospital for months. We have to move to Vancouver and need help to pay for the Home Away program for myself and our children.

This is patient housing for families of people in the BTHA Unit at Vancouver General Hospital. First Nations Health Authority funding for Crows immediate family has already been accessed and while I try to get funding I am left floundering with ensuring my families daily needs are met because of these circumstances. It is $26.00 a day for us to stay there in a very nice apartment that is furnished with all the amenities.

I am still next on the list for the Aboriginal Patient Lodge, and am also on several other housing lists.

Until I can source help that will help pay for this amazing oppertunity and while I await longer term permanent housing I ask you on behalf of Crow and my sons to please pitch in and help us get established here and stable!

For those who dont know: Warrior Crow has been in a terrible accident life threatening accident and is in long term care at Vancouver General Hospital with severe brain trauma among other injuries.

Crow has fought for land, water, and Indigenous liberation for well over 20 years, dedicating his life to the resistance and the movement. He spent months at Oceti Sakowin as part of Red Warrior Society he fought fiercely, took rubber bullets, was frozen with the water cannons, pepper sprayed, maced, and arrested multiple times for #MniWiconi and was and still is an integral part of Red Warrior Society as well as helping run Ancestral Pride.

He is now in the battle of his life, his frontline is surviving and healing, so he can continue his work for Mother Earth. My sons and I have to move to Vancouver BC from their home community Ahousaht on the west coast, as his recovery may take up to 2 years of healing his spirit, body, and mind.

If you support Indigenous Land Defenders and Water Protectors, now is the time to step up and support a resistance family in a time of extreme need and crisis. Your help can make a difference in wether my family eats and is safe for the day or not.

Crow is in what is known as a minimally conscious state, with periods of transient awareness, and his rehabiliation Dr said there is no real timeline for rehabilitation at this time due to his mental current state, and patience is key and that talking with him touching and comforting him and reassurances are best.

Thank you so much for you continued help and support and love of Crow and my little family!

Queen, Crow, and our boys!

Greetings Everyone,

A quick update from Ancestral Pride first off Happy Solstice and the return of the light I hope all are well! I am slowly trying to get into the spirit of Solstice and am looking forward to the return of the light as it has been a dark last half of this year for our family, may this new year bring us all prosperity, healing and love!

For those who dont know: Warrior Crow is in long term care at an assisted living facility in Vancouver with Traumatic Brain Injury. I hope to find a home to bring him to soon we want him home, we have until December 31st to move out of this home and so far we have no leads on a home as of yet, as you can imagine this is terrifying for me as I have young children to care for and myself as well. Packing and moving is in the top three stressors of life.

As of now there is no real timeline for him to come back to himself and be aware and present at this time due to his current mental state, patience is key. Talking with him touching, comforting him and reassurances are best for now.

Crow is fed with a tube and is wheelchair bound, his motor skills are limited and he communicates but has no memory of who we are and sometimes who he is as you can imagine this is devastating to our family to have our Crow in this position, I am left floundering without my other half and trying to live in a very expensive city.

Crow has suffered a traumatic brain injury in early July and is still very much ill. On the scale the hospital occupational therapist gave me he is at a level 3 right now, you can see the scale here at this link https://patienteducation.osumc.edu/documents/braininjury-stages-recovery.pdf that is why there is a huge significance to the fact yesterday he complimented me on my hair cut and said it looks nice and also that said he misses me and loves me. These are massive accomplishments for Crow because it means he remembers me and he remembers what it is to love or miss someone. Every visit is very different in terms of his memory for us all because he is healing a massive injury and his short term memory is shot right now, think of the movie 50 first dates, that's me introducing myself to Crow every day and him and his spirit knowing me and loving me and the kids but also struggling to fathom who we are and why he is in the hospital. He has transient periods of awareness where you can see he is conscious of his predicament but they do not last long. Carrying on a conversation can be funny for all involved because he is still himself and his personality and spirit shine thru but the communications can be tricky to navigate. The children are handling it amazingly and so is Crow, they care do him by helping with his grooming and giving him their energy and love during our visits. It is so very gratifying to be told by the staff how happy he is to be with me and the kids and how happy he is with us and that he is not like that when I or kids aren't there. Too hear him laugh in response to us and with us is amazing and it's a miracle he not only survived the accident but is here talking with us a mere 3 months later ❤️ this man is truly amazing! Thank you to everyone who has helped us in any way while we care for Crow and know how deeply grateful I am for this support!
