End of Life Expense Help for Piper

$545 of $500 goal

Raised by 24 people in 22 months
Anyone who knows my cousin Brian knows that his world revolves around his dog Piper. She is his best friend and most faithful companion. Many of you have probably seen him riding his bike around the Ferndale neighborhood with her, especially during the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Unfortunately, Piper has severe arthritis and her health is rapidly declining. She is 14/15 years old and we fear the worst is coming within the next week or two. Brian wants to have her cremated so that he can have her ashes placed in an urn he made, so we are looking into options at the Michigan Humane Society for euthanasia and cremation. It sounds like the best option for his request (euthanasia where he can be in the room + cremation that allows him to bring the ashes home) will cost around $285. Brian is on a fixed income and cannot work, so I’m hoping to help alleviate that stress as much as possible by raising some funds so he can honor Piper how he’d like.

In addition, once Piper passes he would like to rescue another dog. Brian lives alone and is disabled, so having a loving companion is therapeutic and an important part of his quality of life. He loves animals and rescued Piper when she was 3, so it’s always been a natural and important part of his life to care for a pet. The remainder of the funds requested here will cover upfront costs for adopting a pet (fees, tags, food, bed, vet appts, etc.). Any extras will cover spoiling said pet.

Anyone who knows Brian knows what a loving and kind-hearted person he is, so it would mean the world to him to know that others care and want to help with Piper.

Once again, thank you to everyone who helped us reach and exceed our goal. Piper was put to sleep last week, and thanks to everyone's generosity we were able to honor Brian's wishes to have her cremated.

The rest of the money we raised went toward the adoption of Brian's new friend, Buddy! He's an adorably sweet 1 year old Australian cattle dog and Gordon setter mix who loves to cuddle and play. He had just arrived at the Michigan humane society from Tennessee a couple days before he rescued him.

Thanks again to everyone!

WOW, thank you so much to everyone who helped us reach and exceed our goal in only two days! Brian is filled with gratitude that his family, friends, and the Ferndale community all pitched in to help him out during this difficult and emotional time. It’s going to make everything much easier on him.

I’m going to keep the fund open until we have everything he needs to do handled, so if anyone still wants to donate it will go toward Brian and his new dog for a little extra financial comfort. I’d like to get him a new coat and some other essentials since he enjoys going for walks and bike rides through the neighborhood, and I’m sure he’ll want to even more with a new dog.

Thank you again to everyone!

Thank you so, so much to everyone who has donated so far. It means the world to Brian and he has been so overwhelmed with emotion knowing others care about his Piper. He is thinking she may have to be put down by Monday, so we are working on arrangements for that. I will keep everyone posted.
