Creating the Meadows Family Forest
Why are we doing this? Because at Meadows, as we are dancing above the forested, cloud and star studded skies, we know that we are not seperate from nature. We are part of it and the health of humanity is inextricably linked to that of the natural world.
That's why we've decided to create the Meadows forest. The Meadows forest will be planted in Jhapa, Nepal, where we will pay local villagers to seed, plant and take care of the trees. These trees will sequester carbon and mitigate climate change, repair and heal degraded land, be used in agroforestry, and provide some of the most vulnerable people in the world a chance to earn a living from protecting and healing their land, rather than degrading it out of desperation. And one tree costs a mere £0.08.
In order to offset the carbon generated from the festival, we are going to plant 33,691 native trees. This process will be managed by our partner, Eden Reforestation Projects, one of the largest non-profit tree planting organisation in the world. We also need to raise an extra £250 to pay the Go Fund Me fees, bringing our total fundraising amount to £2,884.
The carbon that we create is 764,100 kg, and is generated through our flights to and from the festival site.
Over 1,500 people are estimated to gather on the mountain side this year, meaning if everyone involved in creating magical memories with us paid just £1.93, we can get the trees in the ground and start celebrating the birth of our very own Meadows forest. Then, once this year is over, we will continue to plant more and more trees in Nepal, growing our forest ever larger.
Through this simple, powerful act, we can help to create a beautiful forest that will protect people, climate, wild creatures and help make Meadows in the Mountains one of the greenest festivals on earth.
Let's do it family!
The Meadows Team.
With only 9 days until the festival begins, and we dance together above the clouds, our little Meadows forest is beginning to grow. So far 14 beautiful souls have planted 256 trees in Nepal, healing the soil, water and people.
This is a wonderful start, but we still have a looong way to go.
Please share and donate so that we can make this dream a reality.
