Our Diplomat Sports Club is an AAU Basketball team created to give the youth an opportunity to compete at the highest levels of basketball competition throughout Iowa.
Diplomats Basketball was founded by the Big Bang Foundation, who is committed to uplifting the community through both athletic competition and academic excellence. They recently wrapped up their first season of the Cedar Rapids Jr. NBA, with games being hosted at local middle schools.
The Cedar Rapids Diplomats (14u) have been selected to play in the Jr. NBA World Championships, Central Region, June 8th - 10th. The team will be led by Coaches Nate Ledsinger & Brandon Jackson. both USA Basketball Certified.
The goal behind the basketball program is to give youth the ability to play basketball at a high level without the financial stress of similar basketball clubs.
Jr. NBA World Championships is the first of its kind for basketball, aiming to be as popular as the Little League World Series. NBA has recently stricken a deal with FOX Sports and 20 hours of gameplay will be televised nationally, we believe this will be a huge opportunity for these kids. The NBA has also tapped into its megastars Dwayne Wade and Candace Parker to be the program's ambassadors. If the Cedar Rapids Diplomats win in June, they will travel to Orlando in August to tip off against the top 16 teams from around the world.
However, we are constrained by a lack of funds to help players and families with their expenses. Travel, gas, hotel, and food are estimated to cost about $3500.
