Crayons for Kids

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Dan, and I need your help to get crayons and other art supplies into the hands of some kids.

Specifically, I'm hoping to buy crayons, colored pencils, and paper for every student at an elementary school where my friend is an art teacher.

This all started when my wife and I found some unused art supplies while cleaning. My friend graciously accepted the supplies and promised to put them to good use in the classroom. We began talking about the students and my friend said something that really hit me in the gut.

"Lots of those kids don't even have crayons at home, they tell me. So this is super appreciated."

At first I was confused and upset at parents who wouldn't buy basic art supplies for their children. Then I realized these parents, no matter how much they love their kids, just can't afford things like crayons and drawing paper.

I can't give too many details to protect the anonymity of the kids and their families, but I can tell you this much. My friend's school is in a zipcode in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where 23% of the households live below the poverty line. For example, in the United States a four-person household making just over $23,000 is considered living in poverty.

The parents are spending most of their money just surviving, paying rent and buying food. There's no room for luxuries like art supplies.

My wife and I have already decided to buy crayons and drawing pads for the Kindergarteners at the elementary school. What I need is help getting crayons and paper to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. I want to get 4th and 5th graders colored pencils and spiral bound sketch books.

Each class is around 60 kids. So here's the breakdown on costs.

Drawing pads from Dollar Tree
$195 for 180 pads

24-pack Crayola crayons from Amazon
$224 for 180 boxes

Drawing pads from Dick Blick
$414 for 120

12-pack Crayola pencils from Amazon
$440 for 120 packs

$1400 is the goal to get every kid some art supplies to take home with them. The overage is to cover gofundme's operating fees.

100% of the money raised after gofundme fees are collected will go toward the kids. If the full ammount is not reached I will do my best to stretch the funds to cover as many complete grade levels as possible with any remaining money going straight to supplies for my friend's classroom. If we beat the goal then I will look at getting nicer drawing pads and more classroom supplies. But I promise you ALL of the money will go to helping these kids.

The take-home art supplies will be purchased by myself and then handed over to my friend to give out as gifts to their students when they leave for winter holiday.

I know I'm asking a lot of you to trust me on this. I can't name my friend, the school, or even the city it's in. I can only hope that this write-up illustrates how serious I am about helping some kids.

Thank you.
