Crawford High Cross Country teams
The alumni foundation seeks to provide running shoes for our cross country team. The new track and stadium should be complete in the Fall..last but not least! This sport has been enthusiastically received and is a wonderful fit for this Crawford student population. The school has a good source for discounted shoes. The following from our coach Tlaloc Venancio:
The Crawford Cross Country Team has had tremendous growth in the last twelve months. From six runners in the 2015 season to twenty-five in 2016, we expect to have 50-60 runners this year. The team, like the school's population, is composed of athletes from Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Mexico, Thailand, Somalia, Vietnam, Sudan, Eritrea, among others. In 2016, the revitalized XC boys team won the City League Championships and the girls placed 3rd. A feat that had not been attained since 2003 for the boys and since 1995 for the girls. The boys went on to place 6th in the San Diego Section CIF Championships, 3 spots away from the State Meet. All of the boys from the Varsity will return this year in addition to 15 extra athletes who competed during the Track season.
Running has given many of the runners in this team hope. Many of their lives have been torn with war situations in their native countries and now in a new found sport, they have found a special place of belonging. The XC at Crawford provides tutoring once a week, travel opportunities, and an extended family of student athletes that are trying to accomplish big things in life. Because of their success during the 2016 season, the team was moved to a tougher league this year where they will compete against bigger schools. For the ladies, this will serve as an opportunity to measure up with some of the county's best girls. The boys have hefty goals in mind, to make the California State Meet for the first time in roughly 40 years.

From me: Thank you to these fine young gentlemen for representing Crawford at State for the first time in decades and for doing so with such heart.
Nader Ali took first place individual. Has not happened at Crawford for decades. ❤❤❤ Don't forget Alumni that the Foundation and you and our friends on gofundme and social media have helped make this happen.
I want to invite you to come cheer for the Crawford men and women as they toe the starting line for the Eastern League Championship this Thursday, November 9th at 3pm at Morley Field. Competition will be tight between the Colts, Mira Mesa and Point Loma - anyone could take the championship, and our runners need your support every step if the way! These brave youth have prevailed over injury, academic struggles, food scarcity, and homelessness to finish the season with pride and tenacity.
Saturday November 18th, the Crawford men will make a historic attempt to qualify for the State meet, a feat that hasn't been accomplished in 41 years! Girls race at 11:45 AM, boys at 1:25 pm. Location: Morley Field, San Diego. Please join us to cheer for the team. Feel free to bring refreshments to share with the athletes!
