Parts for Earthman's Spaceship
There is no sugar coating this. Brain tumors range from 1-4, Stage 1 showing only in children, and Stage 4 being the most malignant. Earthman has been diagnosed with a Stage 4 brain tumor. The neurosurgeon does not recommend surgery, because the risk is too high. The tumor, which is called a GBM brain tumor, is located in the brain stem which affects speech and motor skills. This area is commonly referred to as the relay station of the brain. Due to this location, his condition is inoperable. There is no cure only the ability to reduce the size of the tumor. Earthman will be having a biopsy on Thursday, September 8th to determine the exact type and properly prepare for the next step of the process.
At this time the oncologist is recommending chemo and radiation for six weeks. This will be started two weeks after the biopsy, so that he has time to recover from the surgery.
Due to the nature of Earthman's condition, he will be unable to work. This change in income has put an added stress on us. Any money raised will go towards his medical bills and to help him do the things he wants - going to concerts, traveling.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I just want him to have the best.
Earthman's first round of chemo and radiation treatments ended on November 8th. That same day we headed out for a 10 day vacation to Arizona. We traveled by car, so it allowed us to stop and smell the roses along the way. We visited and toured the exciting Earthships outside of Taos NM. We then stopped in Prescott Valley to visit our old and dear friends Matt and Devin. We headed to Tucson for a couple of days and met up again with some dear friends. We took three days in Phoenix. Then headed up to Glenwood Springs CO and relaxed in the Iron Mountain Hot Springs for a couple of days.
We were home for Thanksgiving and was happy to get a little bit of down time.
In December we went to Florida to visit our dear friends Kaye and Steve Berman. They graciously let us stay at their house while we traveled around Florida and Alabama. We were able to spend time with Earthman's Dad - Larry. We also got to go see our newest granddaughter - Quinn Rose. Her parents - Shane and Elizabeth - live in Alabama, so we figured - what the heck? and took a road trip to see them and our grandson Dominic. Again a shout out to Kaye and Steve for helping us make it a memorable vacation. We went to the beach a couple of times, took an airboat ride and enjoyed the sunny, warm Florida weather.
Earthman had his latest MRI on 12/20. We were given the results on 12/27. As expected the tumors looked to be about the same. The good news is that they have stopped growing. We have begun another round of chemo - 5 days on, 3 weeks off. We will do this for 3 months, then check in with another MRI.
For the Christmas holiday, Earthman was surrounded by his family. We had a great time and enjoyed every bit of it.
Coming up for us is a couple of concerts. On Thursday, December 29th, Michael Franti and his partner Sara's foundation - Do It For The Love - is hosting us to attend the String Cheese Incident concert at 1st Bank Center. We hope to meet several of the band members.
Then for New Year's Eve, Yonder Mountain String Band has graciously invited us to join them! We look forward to experiencing their concert at the Boulder Theater.
Earthman says Peace to everyone!
Monday, 11/7 - 6PM-8PM
Wednesday, 11/9 - 6PM-8PM
Saturday, 11/12 - 2PM-4PM
If you are not able to make any of these, send me a message on FB and we will arrange something.
We do have a few extra - first come, first get them!
Good news!!! We have received the t-shirts and are trying to coordinate getting them out to everyone that purchased them. We will probably be setting up a couple of days at Taunaz Tavern (where we had the fun-raiser) to distribute them. Stay tuned for more information!
He will resume chemo and radiation treatments tomorrow. We expect to get a CT Scan, to verify his updated condition.
I am so sorry to hear of Earthman's diagnosis. The Glenn Garcelon Foundation provides financial assistance to victims of brain tumors. Please visit our website to learn more. Glenngarcelonfoundation.org. We will be holding a fundraiser this Saturday - Taste of Hope at the Retreat at Solterra in Lakewood and would be honored to have you as our guests.
Hearing of the news brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for the energy, enthusiasm and inspiration over the years. From afar you have been a model for how to have an open heart and how to treat a stranger as a friend. My thoughts, prayers, love and support are with you and your family today Earthman.
Becky, I am a nurse at University of Colorado. Has Earthman had a second opinion? And have you come to our neurologists? Because I truly believe we have the best of the best. (PS, I'm pretty sure you were my beer man at Ryan Adams at Red Rocks on August 17th). My thoughts are with you.
I am unable to donate at the moment but I want to send my thoughts and good vibes to Earthman. He always brightened our day at Coors field, he was a continuous ray of hope and a tad of sarcasm. I'll miss seeing him at the games...even though we live in Florida now I still look for him in the stands during televised games. #peaceandlove
Just wanted Earthman to know that we (Rockies fans) are still thinking of him all the time. The ballpark isn't the same without him.
Iron Mountain Hot Springs is the perfect place to relax and take a little down time. Glad you have been having fun adventures. Take care and Happy New Year! Thanks for the update.
Hi, thanks for the update. Not sure if you know or saw, Jimmy Hearing the lead guitarist of widespread panic dressed up as Earthman last night! Nice tribute to a great man. Feel better earth!
