Help Purchase a New War Canoe for the Carleton Place Canoe Club's 125th Anniversary!
This year, 2018, is the 125th anniversary of Canada's oldest, continually run Canoe Club! CPCC.
We are a non-profit organization which runs flatwater canoe/kayak programs for athletes of all ages and abilities. Programs are designed to promote a positive self-image, an appreciation of the sport and the spirit of co-operation and fair play. Our club continues to be at the forefront of the sport within Canada and has produced many Provincial, National and International competitors and champions (including 5 Olympians) since 1893! We think this is something to be very proud of and we hope you share in this pride too.
Canoeing and kayaking has always been a part of Canada's heritage, and one uniquely Canadian component of this is the War Canoe Race (15 person canoe). We are the only country in the world which competes in this type of event.
The CPCC has a very respectable showing in war canoe races, including placing top 10 in the Junior final at the 2017 National Championships. Most of the athletes in this event were from younger training groups, which means the next few years could bring about amazing things for our War Canoe program.
Unfortunately, our existing war canoe is very old, damaged beyond repair and is a detriment to our potential at future regattas. Due to it's age, we were at a considerable disadvantage at Nationals. Boat design and materials have changed significantly in the last decades, and a new boat would mean great things for our clubs program. Therefore one of our celebratory initiatives for 2018 is to raise the funds to purchase a new war canoe.
