“Alright good people, hot dogs and hamburgers are on, so come on over!”
On Wednesday evenings during the summer our church brings a grill into Trowbridge Square Park in the Hill (in New Haven, CT). The good people of Christ Presbyterian Church in The Hill bring dishes, fruits, a salad, and some dessert. We offer a small feast to whomever happens to be in the park that evening. Sometimes, for some, it will be there only meal for the day.
The good people of the park—dad’s spending some time with their kids, single moms giving their children some fun and energy release, neighbors hanging out, plenty of unparented teens, and the homeless, the addicted, and even some gang members. They are all invited to join us for a short message (i.e., some park preaching) and prayer—and they do come to hear the Word even though they know they'd still be able to come eat. 40, 60, and even sometimes, 80 gather. Listen. Pray. And, then, eat.
These eight Wednesday evenings are our church’s signature ministry. And, this year, we need some help to cover the costs for this ministry. Although our church family brings homecooked dishes and deserts (without cost), between incidentals, supplies, the hot dogs and hamburgers, propane, equipement, and some outreach items, each Wednesday ministry costs about $175. We've added a few dollars in our goal, so we may also have some resources to help some of those to whom we ministry. We also give away some school supplies on our last evening.
CPC in The Hill is a church plant in one of New England's poorest neighborhoods. Our resources must be raised outside of ourselves. This BBQ in the Park ministry is one of our signature ministries and puts us in the midst of our most vulnerable neighbors for 8 weeks during the summer. Help us make this happen for summer 2017. Extend your love for people by helping us love on our neighbors in the Hill.
*All funds raised will go directly to the expenses of our "In His Midst" Park BBQ ministry.
