Kirian and Tristan's Tanzania Project
Objective: We are trying to raise funds for the school children of the Mkombole school to establish a sustainable milk-selling business. The milk sale supports school fees. The cows need vaccinations, food, and a full time keeper.
Tristan:
In July 2015 my family visited Tanzania. It was an unforgettable trip not only for the amazing wildlife but also for the people. If you look up Tanzania on the Internet what you will find is pictures consisting of the beautiful wildlife and scenery but also the saddening poverty of the native people. I believe that pictures are worth a thousand words but being there right next to those suffering people was a much more touching experience. The people were so benevolent and so used to their ways of life that from my foreigner’s perspective it seemed odd because of the extreme poverty they where in. We are used to running water, healthy food and many other comforts that shelter us from . Sadly, they do not have many of the things we take for granted. The people there where so open hearted and so used to their way of living that they were alway smiling and compassionate to us.
During our time in Africa we also visited a local school. We were so fortunate to visit such a beautiful facility. Previous donors had helped to get the children a proper bathroom with flowing water. The main thing that they talked about was how they had recently purchased two fully-grown cows to supply the school with milk to sell and meat later on. The main problem with this was that neither of the cows had had vaccinations and this meant a sure disease leading to bad milk and bad meat. All in all without the vaccinations all the money they used to get the cows will be wasted without the proper vaccinations. The vaccinations and the caregiver will cost $250 a month so we will need $3000 for a solid year to get the cows healthy.
But we cant do this alone. We need your help. They need your help. And together we can make that possible. These children were exclaiming their joy at the news that we were going to try and help them. These children truly need these cows not only for their own welfare but also for their life later on because it teaches them to take care of cows and for them to learn a sense that their work is paying off when they see how happy and healthy the cows are. We know that the money will not get pocketed along the way because our gracious friend Laura has helped the money to get all the way to the school where they need it. I really felt a strong connection with these children. I could really see the hope in their eyes. And I wish you can give them hope too.
