Cotacachi Special Olympics Club

Cotacachi Ecuador is a beautiful small town in the Andes mountains of South America.  People are kind, the climate is amazing, and we believe it is a blessing that we are able to be here.
Having worked in Special Education for thirty years, I could not imagine life without children. We began volunteering with three wonderful families.  As always, they have taught me far more than I ever could teach them.
It became clear that much more was needed.  Services are significantly limited in comparison to what I was accustomed to in the United States.  Consequently, one of the things we began to research initiating a Special Olympics Team here in our town to increase recreational opportunities for the children we know and those we hope to meet.
We recently met with Special Olympics in Quito Ecuador who has approved our local club!  Now the remaining work begins!  
We will have a training for coaches and volunteers in early April, begin practices, and hopefully participate in games in May.  We are beginning with nothing but willing hands and open hearts.  We need and appreciate any level of donation you are able to give!
