Costanoa High Skateboards

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the first round of fundraising! We bought enough materials to build and paint 30 decks and with the generous donation from NHS we have griptape, wheels, bearings and trucks.  We are also working on a logo for stickers and shirts.

For phase 2 of the project we are planning on field trips to skateboard factories, writing and publishing a skate zine and building boards from our own designs.

We'll need:

We are an alternative education high school physical science class in need of materials to conduct a skateboard building project.  Our school is quite small compared to most, so students here have formed a closer bond than a comprehensive high school.  Most of our students came to us after struggling in larger schools.  We work hard to personalize their education in ways not possible with larger populations.

Our class at Costanoa Continuation High School is a project based science class with a hands on focus.   In the current quarter we are working on making a high school skateshop. 

Creating and studying skateboards is something that would involve many students' common interest of skateboarding, while including lessons about the creation and function of skateboards.

We are using Roarockit technology that allows us to fairly easlily construct the skate decks with the students.  They will be learning about teamwork, construction techniques, wood harvesting and its environmental impacts, physics of vacuums and atmospheric pressure.  The students will design and build two decks each, one to keep and the other to market. The proceeds from the decks sold will go to support next semester.

We currently have most of the durable goods to conduct the project including vacuum bags, pumps, and foam molds.

sealant tape for the vacuum bags
enough veneer to press 25 decks
promotional stickers
