A Cool Change is coming for Perth!
Cool Change is a new Artist-Run Initiative (ARI) located within the historic Bon Marché Arcade on Barrack Street in Perth's CBD.
Cool Change is the arrival of a cold front in the afternoon or evening after a day of high summertime temperatures. It is the sense of interconnectedness with your surroundings, of feeling as though things are about to pick up. Cool Change stands for critically engaged work, an accessible, welcoming environment and an agile, responsive outlook.
Cool Change is positioned to be Perth's only multi-space, multi-artform, ARI with a priority for supporting the work of emerging artists. With your help we can add this new feature to the WA arts ecosystem. We are working hard to bring this new venture to life, with our inaugural opening taking place August 3, 2018.
The Space
Cool Change will encompass three individual galleries, a flexible project space, an artist studio, as well as a shop stocking a selection of artist-made objects and publications. Positioned on the 1st floor Bon Marché Arcade, there is an elevator available, and we are striving to make the space as accessible as possible.
The property we are taking over has been unoccupied for over 20 months and requires a significant amount of TLC. We will be giving it a big clean, refinishing floors, painting and constructing walls and refitting lighting to bring the space up to standard for exhibitions, performances, screenings, workshops and more!
The Aim
Cool Change aims to support, collaborate with, and present the work of early-career West Australian artists across artforms. We will also provide a Perth-based landing pad for interstate and international practitioners. Cool Change aims to operate as a crossroads for contemporary artists in Perth.
What Your Support Will Provide Us
We will be transforming this underutilised historic property into a bright, up-to-date and accessible space. In order to complete this fit-out, we need to purchase paint, tools, construction materials, safety equipment and hire some machines. The Cool Change team will be volunteering our time to undertake this fit-out, in order to keep costs low. However, we will need to bring in a sparky to check and install lighting, and make sure everything is safe and sound.
Your support of the Cool Change fitout campaign will help fund material costs, labor of tradespeople and of course, buying a really fancy EXIT sign. If we raise beyond our initial target, we can begin to invest in technical equipment for use by artists at Cool Change.
What You Will Get
As a supporter of the Cool Change fitout campaign you will receive a variety of rewards designed and made by our team of creative weather-people.
In addition, you will be helping establish a critically engaged, and artist-focused space that will be the eye-of the storm for the strong community of creatives in Perth!
