Connecticut Young Birders Club: WSB

My name is Jory Teltser. I am 17 years old, and the President of the Connecticut Young Birders Club. I am competing in the World Series of Birding on May 12th. The Word Series of Birding (WSB) is a 24hr competition in which a team of birders travel around a specific area (in our case, Cape May County, NJ) and try to see as many bird species of as possible. Last year our team, the CTYBC Darth Waders, came in second place(!), with a total of 162 species of birds (see this link for the checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S36621821 ). This year, we are taking it up a notch. We have registered as an adult team, in order to put us on the same level as the pros. The downside to this is that it is MUCH more expensive to register (over $100 per person).

The money that we raise will almost entirely go to the Connecticut Audubon Society's Smith Richardson Preserve in Westport, CT (a birding location very near and dear to my heart). This money will help maintain and preserve this vital migratory bird stopover site. A small percentage of the money we raise will go to paying for club trips that we host every month.
