Let’s Break the Cycle of Poverty in Low-Income Communities

Thirteen million people are born into poverty in the U.S. Only about 60 percent of children from the most impoverished families are working at age 30. Through our High School Cybersecurity Program, we aim to change these statistics.

Our High School Cybersecurity Program leverages virtual reality games as part of a comprehensive curriculum which contains videos from industry experts, technical reading and writing, and real-world projects—all designed to help high school students pass the Security + certification

We want to empower these students with options:

·       Find a job right out of high school

·       Find a job out of high school and go to college

·       Go to college for a 2 or 4-year degree

Where is the Money Going?

The money will buy ten laptops and virtual reality equipment a piece for two low-income high schools in Denver and New Orleans. The computers will not only be used for our high school cybersecurity program but can be used to teach additional STEM courses that these students will not otherwise receive.

Why Cybersecurity and Virtual Reality?

HACKERS STOLE $172 BILLION FROM PEOPLE IN 2017. Cybersecurity awareness has come to the forefront in recent years with notable hacking that cost our economy billions of dollars and jeopardized our national security. And the scariest part?

THERE WILL BE 3.5 MILLION UNFILLED CYBERSECURITY JOBS BY 2020.

Spark Mindset tries to reach low-income students using VR instead of the more traditional approach of hitting them over the head with statistics. VR gaming as a way to spark interest in the growing field of cybersecurity is an incredibly innovative idea. Furthermore, leading academic research showed that when the traditional instruction was replaced with virtual reality students demonstrated 76% more learning.

By helping us fund this goal, you will be assisting low-income inner-city students to gain experience and skills, which they can use in their future life, and it can help to develop the desire in these students to pursue cybersecurity careers in the future.
