CoMo STEMinists Robotics Team

We have started a FIRST LEGO League team for our daughter, Maryam, and three other Fourth Grade girls. By participating in this league, they will learn valuable skills. They will build on a core of strong teamwork to learn about real-world problems, develop solutions, and present them. They will also learn about Robot design & programming.

This year's theme is Hydrodynamics - the Human Water Cycle. Teams are to identify one problem in the cycle of how we Find, Transport, Use or Dispose of water. Then, they must propose an innovative solution to that problem.

They will also compete in the Robot portion of the challenge, which is where a bulk of the costs come into play.

The first year for a team is quite expensive as we need to purchase the equipment - ideally one robot for every 2-3 girls.

Estimated first-year costs can be over $1,500 (even higher if purchasing more robots/pieces or advancing in tournaments). We are trying to get funding help everywhere we can, so noone has to pay too much to participate.

Here are the costs that we're facing, in chronological order.  As you see our campaign total rising, you will be able to predict where we are in our expenditures:

1.)  Register the team with the national league.  $225 (annual cost) - DONE
2.)  Order the Challenge Kit (for the Robot Game & Design portion).  $85 (annual cost) - DONE
3.)  Order the first Robot Kit.  $500 (one-time cost)
4.)  Build the Robot Game Table.  $50-100 (one-time cost) - DONE
5.)  Register for local Qualifying tournament (November 11th). $125 (annual cost) - DONE
6.)  Team T-Shirts, etc.  $100 (one-time / annual cost)
7.)  Supplies, Travel.  $100 (annual cost)
8.)  Spare battery for the first Robot.  $95 (one-time cost)
9.)  Team-Building Activities.  $100 (one-time / annual cost)
10.) Robot Kit for each additional 2-3 girls. $500/each (one-time cost)
11.) Maintenance, Extra Parts, etc. $100 (annual cost)
12.) Register for regional tournament (if advance). $200
