Help create an entire economy in Karamoja, Uganda, see, ridekaramoja.com
one of the poorest place on earth, by helping the local people build mountain bike trailsand an economy around biking.http://www.ridekaramoja.com
100% of all donations goes towards paying the local people $2.50 US per day and hundreds will show up for the chance to earn this, the region has zero economy today.
Mountain biking creates trailbuilding jobs, guiding, fee's to ride the area, fees for the campground we are putting in at the base , plus other tourism related revenue.
Paying school fee's for girls is the key driver to doing this.
We also invite you to come, design your own trail and adapt that trail, with naming rights on Trailforks. The more trails, the greater the economic opportunity is for the people.
Also honor Paul Sherwen, Tour de France announcer and past Tour rider who grew up in Karamoja and passed away suddenly in December of 2018.
Join our grassroots movement, Ride Karamoja and change lives forever.
Help us build an entire trail network and kickstart an economy for the Tepeth people.
We are planningan 8 day Epic ride across the region, once the trails are complete.
Hi my name is Pat Montani founder of Bicycles for Humanity, a global grassroots movement that has delivered over 160,000 bicycles to Africa empowering thousands with the gift of mobility. 8 years ago Paul Sherwen and I brought 4500 bicycles to Karamoja, Uganda to kickstart the economy. B4H in 15 years has never spent a cent on staff or overhead and never will, we are a pure volunteer lead movement and Ride karamoja will be the same.
Every cent raised goes towards trail building and empowering the local people .
There are few opportunities for the local people, most have never had a job. 2 years ago we started the Tour of Karamoja, to bring people to the region. Last year, see http://www.ridekaramoja.com we built trails, established a camp and trained the locals on how to build trails. The few trails created a new economy for the local people, trail building, guiding, hospitality jobs and fee's to ride their lands. A big wage in karamoja is $2.00 per day and we had hundreds line up for the jobs. World class terrain, unbelievable culture, Africa's best game park, Kidepo Valley in Karamoja, why not help build Africa's biggest network of trails, the Nomadic Warrior Trails and kickstart an entirely new economy, all grassroots and all volunteer.
We are also inviting all mountain bikers and trailbuilders to come and design a trail and with the local people build the trails and become a part of a new economy for the poor of Karamoja. A network of trails for indigeneous people create many new revenue streams and opportunities. Every $25 donation pays a trailbuilder for 10 days and with $2500, we can easily add 5 new trails to the network that has been started.
Paul Sherwen and I founded Bicycles for Humanity, see www.bicycles-for-humanity.org to make a difference to empower others, grsssroots does work. Paul grew up in Karamoja, we were helping deliver better education, healthcare and opportunities for many. Paul passed away suddenly in December of 2018. Paul was loved by millions in the cycling world and we believe that the best way to honor Paul was to continue his work in Karamoja and to build the best mountain , gravel biking trails in Karamoja and as the riders come to ride and experience this incredible region, it empowers all and creates a clean economy we can all feel a part of.
Karamoja is incredibly beautiful and it is the people that make this region so special. We invite everyone to join us on the Tour of Karamoja Epic this fall. Start at sunrise at the top of Mt Elgon, ride down, across the plains of Karamoja, through Pianupe Game reserve, then to the Tepeth Territory and camp at the base of thier trail network. From here, it is off to Kidepo and Kaboong to ride the best flow trails on earth, and then another day to see the sunset in Kidepo Valley National park. There is great video and photo's at ridekaramoja.com
We need to link trails and cut new ones across the region and your donation will go towards making this possible and empowering the people with a new value added economy that does not cut their trees, or mine their lands.
We funded the first phase by selling cycling jerseys at last years event, if we can raise $25,000 we can build out the entire region, creating not only an incredible opportunity for the locals, but some of the best mountain and gravel bike riding on earth.
Paul, I and the entire Bicycles for Humanity team grassroots, we are all volunteers, if we can together make this happen for the people of Karamoja, than it also creates a new set of export services they can bring to the rest of the developing world.
Unedited video of Paul Sherwin doing the wrapup of the Tour of Karamoja, the journey has started, please join us and help empower the local people of Karamoja.
