The Public Theatre Donations

In autumn 2017 Tin Shed Theatre Co. began working on an idea to develop a peoples theatre company, a company of individuals from all walks of life that could come together and share a passion for being creative. Along side the sadly departed Lynette Webb they hatched a plan to build a skill sharing scheme where professional artists working in the creative industries would deliver free workshops and masterclasses to pass on their knowledge, with the ultimate aim being that this company of community individuals would have all the skills needed to make and produce their own theatrical productions.

.....And so The Public Theatre was born.
To date we have a cohort of 30+ individuals who regularly meet. These individuals are gamers, office workers, tree surgeons, carpenters, mums, retail assistants, grafters, students, allotment tenders, professional tea makers and much, much more.
These individuals have taken part in Puppetry making, use of fire in performance masterclass, storytelling, making and designing, building set, prop making, performance skills, hoola hooping and more! By bringing together the skills of the community and those of the artists involved, we end up with a beautiful storm or sharing together, carpenters making set, tree surgeons rigging our ropes and electricians programming lighting, seamstresses making costume.. Just think .. what skill could you bring?

Why do we need more support?
We have been fortunate enough to develop The Public Theatre and Lynette Webb Skill Share Scheme along side our current project Moby Dick on The Transporter Bridge with thanks to funders:

-Arts Council Wales, Heritage Lottery, First Campus, Newport City Homes, Our Living Levels, The Riverfront Theatre, Fusion Project and Pill Millenium Centre.

Once this project ends, our funding with these organisations ends. This means unless we seek further funding through these streams we cannot continue building our vision.

This is where you come in!
We want to continue to build on these projects, offer people paid working placements on future theatrical productions, open the door to more individuals wanting to join and deliver masterclasses. We also want to develop a creative community hub in Pill that will be the home of the Public Theatre.

We're not asking for the world. But if you believe in creativity, and using it as a means to express yourself, if you believe that enriching communities by sharing your skills together can make a difference, if you believe that inspiring people to take risks and try something new can help build confidence, raise aspiration and bring communities together then we'd love you to donate. Whatever you can give, we will be so, so grateful .

Peace and Love.
