“There can be no equal justice where the kind of trial a man gets depends on the amount of money he has”
-Justice Hugo Black

In Dallas, Texas the ability to pay bail divides rich and poor, exploits the vulnerable and locks away the innocent. More than 4,000 people are held every day in the county jail while waiting for their trial. Many of these people are accused of minor crimes - they are not dangerous and do not deserve to be in jail. When innocent people are locked away before their trial because they cannot pay for bail, their lives are destroyed: They lose their jobs, their housing, and may never be able to recover.

No one should be jailed and assumed guilty before their trial just because they’re too poor to pay.

The Community Bail Fund of North Texas will provide small bail grants to low-income people accused of misdemeanor crimes in Dallas. Through these grants, we will protect innocent people from the destructive power of excessive bail. Even a small grant of less than a thousand dollars can stop a crisis before it hurts a life. Please consider joining our effort to protect the right to a fair trial in Dallas. People across the country have supported us in our work to end discriminatory bail practices here in Dallas. Your gift will allow innocent people to go home and stay with their families while they wait for their misdemeanor trial.

Help us by donating $10, $25, $50 or any amount to our fund so we can help maintain the notion that all men and women are innocent until proven guilty regardless of the size of their bank account.
