Our next film date is May 6th in CANADA because of each of YOU!! This is the first of two shoots before we go into Post Production. First: thank you. The donations you've sent have moved *Above The Fear* from dream to departure. We're days out from our Canada shoot (May 5–11), and because of you, we have location, travel, and lodging locked. That's real. Here's what's left to lock—and the timeline that matters: **$1,750 by May 1.** Four days before we leave, we need to secure: - **Insurance** (protecting crew and story) - **Specialized underwater filming rentals** (this film lives in the water) - **Gear** (the tools to tell it true) - **Food** (fuel for the Mighty 3) - ** Ground transportation (to filming locations + lodging) This deadline isn't arbitrary. It's the point at which we confirm everything—vendors, logistics, final preparations. May 1 is when we lock it all in. May 5 is when we go. We're bringing a focused, powerful crew of two to Canada. We're bringing the swimmers' story. What we're asking you to bring is this final push—the one that says, *I'm invested in this too.* The work is happening. Help us lock it in by May 1. **Donate $1,750 (or what you can) and be part of bringing *Above The Fear* to life.** Kristal :)
To all our supporters, we wanted to share some good news, some bad news, and some tragic news. The good news is we finally got Henry to safety. The bad news is that he showed up after disappearing for months very beat up. He limped onto my deck 10 days ago with scars on his head, eyes full of gunk, and a bad wound on his leg. He clearly got in a fight from not being neutered. We successfully trapped him and took him in right away. His leg had a very infected bite, so we had to keep a cone on and a drain for 5 days. He is now recovering, being dewormed, and on a course of antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection. He also tested positive for FIV. We will keep you posted on his decision to stay indoors or if he wants to become a permanent part of our colony. The tragic news...shortly after trapping Henry, a new black male showed up on a Thursday morning. My brain started to work on how soon I could get this new cat. The next evening, we heard what sounded like a cat fight and we all ran outside to stop it. What we discovered was a gang of 3 raccoons attacking this new cat. Despite all our efforts and many neighbors putting themselves in harms way, we were unable to stop this horrible act. The boy cat was killed. We gave him a name, Danny Boy, gathered his body the next morning from several doors down, and took him for a proper cremation. We scanned him for a microchip, but he was unowned... Your continued support helps us help cats like Henry and Danny Boy, who never asked for this hard life in the first place. Thank you for your years of caring and supporting our efforts. As Melvin would say, Godspeed Danny Boy....see you on the other side! Love & peace, Team Melvin
Less than 12 hours after Carmella Charrington walked out of Rikers Island after being jailed for six days on a civil contempt order, the fight came straight to her door. Wednesday (4/22/2026) morning, city marshals and sheriff's deputies arrived at 212 Jefferson Avenue at approximately 7:30 AM to carry out an eviction. Supporters who had gathered overnight to celebrate their friend’s safe return home. As news spread of Carmella’s release, neighbors and supporters visited the home where they were met with the force of the Marshal and several NYPD officers. Brooklyn City Councilmember Chi Ossé was there — and was arrested along with 4 others on the scene. He was pulled to the ground by officers in front of cameras and taken into custody. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he was following up on both the arrests and the underlying case. New York Attorney General Letitia James said she was "deeply disturbed" by the footage of Ossé's arrest. Sheriffs and Marshals broke the locks on the doors and the house now remains vulnerable. Carmella Charrington spent nearly a week in jail for standing up for her family's Brooklyn brownstone — a property the Charrington family has owned for more than 60 years. She held Power of Attorney for her father. She trusted in the system. She sought justice. Instead, a judge sent her to Rikers. Now she's out — and the pressure on her home has only intensified. The legal battle continues. There are court filings to fund, attorneys to retain, and a fight to make sure what happened to this family does not happen to others. Every dollar goes directly toward that effort. If you've already given — thank you. If you haven't, now is the moment. Share this update. The more people who are made aware of what is happening at 212 Jefferson Avenue, the harder it is for unscrupulous characters to get away with Deed Theft in our communities. Stop Deed Theft Now by supporting the cause.

Hello. Just a quick update on Ruth and next steps for her veterinary care. First off, she is doing amazingly well with her foster as you can see from the photos. Our vet recommended we take her to a dermatologist to address her ear mass, so we made an appointment at Animal Medical Center. They only have one dermatologist, so we couldn't get an appointment till July 1, but we're hoping that maybe there'll be a cancellation before then. AMC is a top-notch hospital, so it's worth the wait. In the meantime, she's very happy and cozy, and we appreciate your support!

Frequently Asked Questions

A Location Community is an evergreen, place-based page on GoFundMe that brings together fundraising activity which originates in a specific city, region, or geography. It's designed to help people discover what members of their community are raising funds for - near or far - and see the collective impact of generosity raised.

Location Communities aggregate fundraisers connected to a specific place. Today, campaigns appear based on the organizer's location. This means you may see:

  • Fundraisers supporting someone in the same city
  • Campaigns benefiting someone in another state or country
  • National or global causes organized by someone locally

This reflects how giving and support actually works — people often care about things that happen everywhere, not only where they live. We are working to make sourcing more transparent so visitors understand why a fundraiser appears on a page.

Fundraisers currently appear based on where the organizer is located. Many people raise funds for loved ones outside their city, or for causes beyond their immediate geography. These are still real expressions of civic participation. To reduce confusion, we are evaluating ways to make this more evident to the users so the supporters of the Community understand how fundraisers are included.

The goal is transparency!

No. Location Communities are designed to reflect community activity — not editorial curation or endorsement by GoFundMe or local governments. These pages are a visibility layer. They show how residents are organizing and supporting one another.

Location Communities are built specifically for giving and impact. They provide:

  • Centralized discovery of local fundraisers
  • Ongoing activity updates
  • Aggregated impact metrics
  • Follow tools and notifications
  • A trusted donation infrastructure

Unlike social platforms, the focus is not conversation or algorithms designed to doomscrool or drive engagement for ad serving purposes. Communities are designed intentionally to direct people to the ongoing needs of their neighbors so that they can offer help or support by liking, sharing, or donating to a fundraiser.

No. These communities should not be used as hardship indexes. They show civic participation — moments of need and moments of generosity. The emphasis is on how residents show up for one another. They are meant to highlight resilience, action, and collective support.

Your fundraiser was added because it's connected to a shared cause or event —like a crisis, challenge, or location. Communities help bring related fundraisers together so supporters can better understand the bigger picture and find ways to help.

Being in a Community can help your fundraiser get more visibility. Supporters browsing the Community can discover your fundraiser alongside others connected to the same cause, see collective progress, and feel more confident donating as part of a trusted, organized effort. As part of helping you share your fundraiser more broadly, we may automatically cross-post certain updates you share that are relevant for the broader community.

No action was required on your part. Fundraisers are added automatically when they're clearly related to a specific cause.

Yes. If you don't want your fundraiser included, you can opt-out via the fundraiser manage page within your dashboard - simply toggle off the prompt for Allow my fundraiser to be found in search and discovery. Your fundraiser will still remain active and accessible on its own page.

Not at all. Your fundraiser stays fully yours—same goal, same donations, same updates. The Community is simply an additional way for supporters to discover and engage with your fundraiser.
