This is a brief story of my grandsons five years of life. I'm writing this on his behalf of him and my son.
My grandson is Colton Ware and he was born with a rare disease called Hirshsprung's. At four days old he had to have emergency surgery in order to save his life due to his colon rupturing. Since then he has been hospitalized over fifteen times with multiple surgeries. He has already had a pull-thru and wore a colostomy bag and at some point in the future he will have this surgery again but at that point it will be permanent. He suffers from other issues such as enter colitis and C-diff . His bottom is normally like raw hamburger meat and his entire life has been filled with almost daily horrific pain.
He was just released from Children's Hospital in Chattanooga TN on January 21, 2015. He went through numerous tests and procedures in order for him to be able to eat and have his bowels function and keep him alive. He has lost a significant amount of weight and now his father is having to do a procedure several times daily that in
cludes irrigation of his colon which involves inserting a tube ten inches into his colon to clean him out. This must be done to keep him stable so that he doesn't begin vomiting bowel, etc again. During the next couple of months his father Austin has had to take a family medical leave and will not have any income, which is why this account has been set up. Numerous people suggested he do this including some of Colton's nurses.
Colton's biological mother abandoned him and his three year old brother two years ago on his birthday and left them with a neighbor. That along with his daily health issues has been an emotional struggle for him.
Colton's life has been a blessing to all who meet and know him and he takes all the challenges and pain with stride. His father is his life and the main caregiver for him. For the doctors, nurses and family caregivers in his life, we know how difficult his young life has been and will continue to be unless there is a cure. Some days for him are pure torture. Yet, he will smile and give the best hugs in the world. He has gone through more and has one of the most difficult and baffling cases per his surgeon. His stepmother works at a daycare and his father is a patient tech. They receive no government assistance as they are barely over the line. Now due to him not being able to work, they will not make it without assistance. His father is the only person that can provide Colton's care. There is no home health care assistance. So with that, his son's life and health must come first. It's our hope and prayer this will be temporary and one day soon, they might have somewhat of a normal family life.
The next major challenge for Colton was the first week of February at Children's Hospital in Atlanta for tests and biopsies. He will return in three weeks for more testing and procedures which include being put to sleep again. He is currently in hospital again in Atlanta and it's been pure Hell for him. He is now going to have to have another surgery as of March, 2015 A.C.E. surgery.
If you or anyone you know has the means to help them and make a contribution, this will be such a massive, much needed help to Colton. The bills will continue and this family has endured more than most. They are a very spiritual faith believing family and put their faith and hope in God's Will. If you are able to help or know someone who can, please help Colton and his family make it through this current crisis.
