Funds for Suns to Compete at Worlds

Tax deductible
National Champions going on to The Worlds Cheerleading Competition!

The Colorado Suns special needs allstar cheerleading team competed in Washington DC this past weekend and won the National Championship in a deep division! They also earned their First Ever At-Large Bid for a Special Needs Team to the 2016 USASF Cheerleading Worlds Competition! We are so excited and proud to be part of this incredible experience. Please help us realize our goal to go to Orlando April 23-25th to represent Cheer Central Suns and as ambassadors to all special needs athletes with your donation.  Each team member needs a parent/caregiver to accompany them.  Additionally, the team has 2 coaches and 3 junior coaches that assist the team during competition. Your contribution will help fund this dream of these 14 athletes as we continue to revolutionize special needs cheerleading worldwide.

We are the Colorado Suns!

The Colorado Suns with Special Needs would be honored to have your support.  Our Organization supports the special needs team of the Cheer Central Suns, a family of award winning all-star competitive cheerleading teams located in Broomfield, Colorado.  Each season, our athletes with special needs learn high level, exciting routines taught by the highly qualified staff at Cheer Central Suns.  Routines are performed at local competitions, as well as national competitions across the country.  Because the Colorado Suns with special needs is a 501C3 Non-Profit, your donation is tax-deductible.  Our goal is to make sure that every person with special needs is financially able to join this team!

Background

The population targeted by the Colorado Suns Special Needs cheerleading team is any child with special needs, no matter the need. Recently, the age limit has been increased to also include adults up to 39 years old.
In the State of Colorado approximately 225,000 children have at least one special health care need. These children have long term physical, developmental, behavioral and emotional conditions. Conditions include but are not limited to: asthma, autism, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, down syndrome, kidney disease, loss of hearing or sight, sickle cell anemia, severe adhd and traumatic brain injury.
The Quality of Life will be greatly enhanced for any child and family who is given the opportunity to participate on the Colorado Suns Special Needs Cheerleading Team. According to a 1998 study by Emory University and the University of Georgia and published on the Web site of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs, special needs children who participate in sports improve in strength, coordination, and flexibility. In addition, parents and teachers report the children are less likely to be depressed and often show improvement in behavior, academics and social interaction. The study also indicated that many parents noted a decrease in secondary health complications when their children become less sedentary.
In addition to the benefits listed above, one of the greatest benefits to a special needs child would be the opportunity to interact with their peers. In A Community For All Children – A Guide to Inclusion for Out-of-School Time, researchers state that “Without opportunities to interact with their peers, the social life opportunities for a special needs child are typically limited to parents, caregivers, therapists, and teachers. No matter how kindly this is done and regardless of whether it’s in the child’s “best interests”, the reality is that these children are always being acted upon and have little control over their own lives. They have limited choices and are given limited options. Relationships with peers not only expand the social opportunities that they have, but also present a number of choice making opportunities that are normally not available. Interactions with others will enrich the lives of special needs children and give them the opportunity to develop friendships – which are central to their personal well being.”
Competitive All-star cheerleading is a wonderful opportunity to interact with their peers as the team both practices in the same gym and competes at the same competitions as the other teams in the gym. Cheer Central Suns has numerous teams of varying ages and level abilities and the special needs team is just another team in the gym, equal to the others, competing in the Special Athlete division in All-Star competitions.  Thank you for your consideration.  We would greatly appreciate your support!
