Collegian's Open Records Request

Donation protected
The Kansas State Collegian filed an open records request under Kansas law to obtain information on sexual assault investigations by the Office of Institutional Equity. The university said it needs $1,375 to produce the records for us.

The Collegian is the student-run newspaper at Kansas State University and is a non-profit corporation that is separate from the university.

The university's cost for the records is higher than the Collegian's weekly payroll.

The request is for dates of sexual assault investigations and whether the investigation was of a student, faculty, staff or visitor. The request does not include any personal information.

There are four ongoing Title IX investigations by the Department of Education into K-State and two ongoing Title IX lawsuits brought by students against the university.

We want to report the information to the K-State Family. We want everyone to know exactly how many sexual assault investigations there have been in the last four years and the alleged perpetrators' relationships to the university. Students and parents, as well as everyone else, deserve to know this information before paying tuition.

Any extra or leftover funds will be used for future open records requests.
