Colleen's Cure

Donation protected

Here is a message from my Daughter:

My name is Colleen Mason and my life completely changed in August of 2013. That was when I was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (a rare autoimmune disease that impacts the bile ducts in the liver). When I was diagnosed, my liver was already damaged enough that my medical team advised I would eventually need a liver transplant.
Finally in December of last year, I was given the gift of hope for Christmas. I was finally going to be placed on the transplant list.
While this is - of course - what me and my family and friends have been hoping for, it's become very clear that the expenses will be more than anyone was expecting. Understand that I would prefer not to ask for help with any of this, however due to my illness I've been forced to go on long-term disability for nearly two years. During this time, I've made barely enough to cover my bills, so have very little savings left to cover the last minute flights, accomadations in Halifax (while continuing to pay my regular bills), and food for both me and a required familiar attendant (Thanks Mom!). They expect recovery time in Halifax to take three months or less, unless there are complications. There is a chance of added expenses if by the time I get to Halifax, they feel as though the potential new organ won't work.
As soon as I was placed on the Liver transplant list, I can be called a year from now, or I can be called tomorrow. My bags are packed and ready to go already - just in case. Money should never be a concern when someone is in the last stretch of a major illness like this, so please help me put my focus where it needs to be.
I understand that not everyone is in a place in their life where they can donate. If that's the case, please consider sharing a link. For those that are able to donate something, I am humbled by your generosity.
Depending on how long I am waiting for that call, I plan on adding a few updates that talk a bit about the specific rare illness I have, my story, and more about the organ donation programs.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and/or donating.
