On February 24, 2018 at about 6:30PM Cole Domino was skateboarding home on 19th Street in Costa Mesa. He was struck by a vehicle at Monrovia Street just minutes from his front door. Emergency responders reported to the scene and Cole was rushed by ambulance to CHOC Hospital in Orange with his brother Hayden by his side the whole time, bless his heart.

Cole had emergency brain surgery immediately due to a major hematoma and brain bleed. In a 2 hour-long surgery they were able to remove the blood clot and stop the bleeding. He has a bruise on his front brain lobe and a skull fracture at the back of his head. To relieve the pressure from significant swelling a portion of his skull was removed and frozen and will be replaced at a later time. Thank the lord for medical advancements!
As of the morning of February 25, Cole is in PICU with his dad and mom (Ken and Shannon) by his side. He is heavily sedated and intubated. He will be kept in this state for several days and will be hospitalized for several weeks at the least. It is too early to tell his exact prognosis and he is not out of the woods yet.

The medical expensive for Cole's emergency brain surgery, hospitalization, future surgeries and recovery are expected to reach the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Domino family has medical insurance that will cover a portion of these expenses but not all of them. Ken and Shannon will undoubtedly be missing
work days, have expenses related to traveling to and from hospital and meals away from home.

Cole is just 16 years old and is a sophomore at NHHS. He has always been a kind-hearted and sweet boy. When he was young Cole would often pray for his friends and family... to win their baseball game, to do good on a test, or simply to have their wishes come true.

Its our turn to pray for Cole! Please, family, friends, neighbors, fellow moms and dads, pray for Cole, Shannon, Ken, Hayden and Sophia!

Cole we can not wait for you to get back to everything you love!

10/1/18 Update on our guy:
After conferring with Dr. Louden, it appears that Cole’s frontal lobe is still significantly bruised from the accident and looks as if that is how it will remain. With that as they have learned, comes irritability and cognitive thinking is impacted. Dr Louden has referred Cole to a neurologist through CHOC, however it can take up to 3 months to get in. In the interim he wants Cole to continue on the seizure medication they prescribed him, which is the preferred anti-seizure medication. Sadly, the side effects of this medication are tiredness, irritability and skin break-outs. Cole has begun to experience these in the few short days he has been medicated. This is in addition to the increased irritability and cognitive issues he has experienced since the accident. Prior to the seizure Cole was doing well, making progress, getting up and going to school etc. He has experienced set backs and prayers are needed for Cole to adjust to his new medicine and continue to make progress.
At this point Cole is at risk for more seizures and being diagnosed epileptic. Dr. Louden has recommended more therapy for Cole and prayers are needed that the recommended doctors and therapists are covered by their insurance.
This new part of Cole’s journey has sent Ken and Shannon into a new area of feelings and emotions. While they are so grateful that Cole is alive, they of course want the best for him and his future. The effects of medications, the setbacks, the possible epilepsy, and the fear of the unknown feels like a mountain in front of them.
#prayersforcole and his mental and physical health. Prayers for wisdom for his doctors. Prayers for peace of mind and guidance for Ken and Shannon as they navigate this new path.
#colesarmy please keep Cole and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Cole can go home! His MRI, showed nothing new, thank God! They will call his neurologist tomorrow and show him the scans. He is being given medication to take for the seizures until he sees Dr. Loudin (his neurologist). He does not need to be admitted to the hospital at this time and can go home! Please continue to #prayforcole.
