I was born with Cystic Fibrosis. From my first birthday until my 15th birthday the longest stint I had inbetween hospital admissions was 5 months. A hospital admission for me is a minimum 2 weeks!
I got insulin dependant diabetes at 8 and by 14 I needed a double lung transplant to survive. I decided to jet ski the 2000km length of the longest river in Australia, the Murray River, to raise awareness for organ donation. I signed 1000 new names to the organ donor register along the way. It took me 7 weeks because I was so sick.
At 15 I was gifted with lungs, so naturally, I jet skied back up the Murray River this time in 7 days instead of 7 weeks to prove the difference a transplant can make to someone.
Now my kidneys have failed. I need a kidney from my Mum to save my life. Unlike most people on dialysis, the dialysis is actually eating away at my body and I'm unlikely to survive another 12 months without a kidney transplant.
I want to film my kidney transplant journey so that a documentary can be made. I want this documentary to show other kids how to make the best of a bad situation and how different life is from before the transplant to all the things I will be able to do afterwards.
This footage will add to the footage gained while going through the double lung transplant to make a life story that covers 7 years and 3 transplants. It will be a documentary like no other ever filmed before.
Funds raised will go towards some medical expenses and the documentary. I already have a producer and the first stages of the documentary mapped out. I need funds for professional editing and a camera person to film the live donor and kidney transplant operations.
