Hi! I'm Michael.
I'm 16, I love programming and I love making anything and everything from rockets to robots to video games!
I have an AWESOME project coming up, so please keep reading to find out what I will be up to in July and August 2018!
I have been making things for most of my life, and I have been programming since I was 10. But, in July 2017 I decided that I need to share what I have learned!
Although I was born in Zimbabwe, I moved to the UK when I was 2, and I have not been back since. I have since benefited from a brilliant education and I have been able to learn programming along with many other skills that allow me to do what I love. Therefore, I want to return to where I came from with something to show, and something to offer.
Many of the schools in Zimbabwe do not offer lessons in Computer Science, and the majority of children will only have a basic understanding of IT. I want to be able to teach them something new, and relevant to out ever-advancing technological world. There are computing jobs in Zimbabwe, but Computer Science just isn't being taught early enough.
In the UK, children as young as 5 are being taught about computer algorithms and debugging! I want to be able to catch the kids that I teach up with what they have been missing out on!
I will be going late July 2018 and spending a couple of weeks there teaching programming in some local schools and a local orphanage.
I want to thank HackLab for helping me with the prep leading up to the trip. They teach kids in and around Cambridge how to code, and I am very grateful for their help, especially in designing the workshops that I will be running.
At the end of it all, I want to be able to donate some Raspberry Pi computer kits to the schools so that when I leave, they can continue their programming.
This is why I need your help. Each donation will go towards travel, subsistence and the computer kits that will be donated to the kids at the end.
