$2,300 of $100,000 goal

About three years ago my sister’s hands started shaking and her speech and cognitive skills slowed down.  After months of consulting doctors, about a year ago a neurologists suggested that her illness may be Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s.  She was then told that there is no cure and she should basically go home and wait to die.  Belize does not have the facilities/ technology needed to properly diagnosed or treat ASL or any other Neurodegenerative illnesses, so the doctor diagnosed her with ALS based on the symptoms she had.

Unwilling to give up and with the help of family and friends we started researching symptoms of her condition and found out that they are several other treatable illnesses that mimics the symptoms of ALS, and patients are often misdiagnosed.  This is great news of hope for us.   Because of the nature of her work, we do believe that she could have contracted a parasite or virus that is attacking her body.   She has been a Social Worker for the past eighteen years, and have had to work in unsanitary conditions for hurricane relief and even field work to help victims.  Because we know that she could have easily been bitten by an insect, mosquito, tick, spider, etc or could have contracted bacteria easily, we have all hope that she can be cured if she receives the right medical attention.

As well, two weeks ago she did a series of tests that revealed that she has non-viral Hepatitis and may have been living with it undetected for over 30 years.  The Hepatitis has now cause Cirrhosis of her Liver.

She was always an active and happy go lucky person who has served her country and community well.   She was a primary school teacher for several years before becoming a Human Development Officer, and was also the first female chairlady of her home village, she has been a major supporter of special needs children within Belize and is currently raising her eleven year old son who was born with Down’s Syndrome, we do not know if his condition is because of her illness.  She has also donated tremendously to less privilege families for food and schooling and she is known throughout the entire country of Belize for her generosity.

She is now about 90 percent paralyze and cannot care for herself, her sight is blurred and speech is almost inaudible. Despite the obstacles she remains positive that she will be well again and will be able to use her experience to help others in her position.  Always wearing a smile and thanking God daily that she has life and hope, she is asking for your help to assist her in going abroad to seek the proper diagnosis and possible treatment she needs.

Hi everyone,

I would like to inform my family, friends, donors, and supporters on Gofundme and Facebook, that my sister's funeral date is the 16th of July, 2016. We are having a home going celebration the night before the funeral, at our family home in Calcutta Village. Her funeral sevice will be held at the Seventh Day Aventist Church in Calcuttate Village.( front church) at 1pm that Saturday, followed by a repass directly after. Please feel free to wear something purple if planning to attend Her funeral. Please note this is not something you have to do. Purple is my sister's favorite color, so if you are feeling up to it let's wear her color proudly on that day. We will be providing transportation from Belize City to Corozal Town where the actual funeral will take place.

Also, we are having a viewing here in the United States on July 13th, at Ortiz Funeral Home, 2580 Grand Concourse, Bronx N.Y 10458. The time is from 5:00 to 8:00 pm . Please feel free to wear something purple if you wish to. Again, this is not something mandatory.

Thanks again, and may the Lord continue to strengthen and comfort our hearts!

This is the day that the Lord has made, we will continue to rejoice and be glad in it! Today my sister’s race on earth is ended, a new life in glory has begun. The Lord had smiled upon her at about 6am this morning, wiped her brow and whisper gently in her ear “come on home daughter, I have heard your cry and I have seen your pain. Now take my hand and let me lead you to the Promised Land”. Thanks be to God that I will meet with her again in glory, where all tears will be wiped and sickness and pain will be no more. Friends & love ones we don’t have to mourn like those that have no hope. We have a hope that St. Paul refers to as “A hope that does not disappoint” That’s the hope we are standing on, one that we don’t need to be ashamed or afraid of. The blessed hope of Jesus Christ in us the hope of glory!

My sister will be remembered as someone that put faith and love into action. She didn’t just speak and wish for things to happen, she made it happen. She was a player not a bystander, a hearer and doer of God’s word. The quick and generous response to her GoFundMe account, concerns and well wishes from all of you tells me that she had touch many of your lives in ways words cannot explain. Thanks so much for fighting, praying and now celebrating her life with us. May her touch continues to inspire and provoke us to make a difference in this dark and dying world. We can do it if we allow the profound touch of the Master’s hand to take over our lives. That is what my sister did and if we haven’t started as yet, it’s never too late to get started. I love you all and thanks again for everything!

We will keep you all posted on her home going celebration in Belize, as soon as we get everything sorted out here in the US.

Thanks again!

Greetings once again, in the mighty name of Jesus! I will shout it from the mountain top, I want the world to know that the Lord has heard the cries of his children! It is with great joy and gladness that I am writing this 4th update on the progression of my sister Sherlie's situation. Sorry for the delay, it was not intentional!
My sister is now in the US and is admitted at the Montefiore hospital in the Bronx, New York. The doctors here believe that she has Wilson's Disease, however they are waiting on the confirmation of that. Thankfully there is treatment for Wilson's Disease that will slow the progression of her symptoms and we ask for your continued prayer that God will perform a miracle and reverse her neurological symptoms and allow her to walk again. Also, because this is a disease that is inherited, we are hoping that no other family member is ill. I will continue to keep you informed of her condition as she starts treatment.
I am very grateful and thankful for donors like you who have given from what you don't have to share with us and your heartfelt wishes and prayers to comfort us. Your sacrifice to help us in our time of need will be remembered. Thank you and God bless.!

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the one who was and is and is to come! It's been awhile and it may seem like nothing has happen since then, or you might feel the campaign is slowing down. Please let me re-assure you that that's not the case. The reason for my delay in giving a third update, is that I was waiting to hear back from the physician and my sister's insurance company about specific information that I can update you on. For example the amount of my sister's insurance coverage, a recent MRI report reviewed by a physician here in the US, and a medical letter for her to get a medical visa. These things I thought would have been easy to achieve in two weeks time, but it wasn't.
After hearing back from the Insurance Company, it seems like on our end, we are going to need to raise about 50.000 dollars US (100.000BZ) apart from other expenses she may incur while being here in the United States. I am asking you to please help us to raise this amount of money in the next month or so. At inception she will need about 5,000.00 US upfront cash just to be seen by one of the facilities here. The sooner I get this money the sooner we can move forward with her treatment plan when she gets here. . We are still going over some particulars with the insurance company so these figures can change significantly.
Next, she had to undergo a recent MRI and it was reviewed by a US Physician, who is agreeing that she needs to come to the US for further testing and treatment. Therefore, when my sister receives this letter she will then go in to the US consulate to request a medical Visa. Let's pray that she won't have any problems there and that her daughter will also get her visa, since she will need to accompany her mother. With this huge help from Dr. Flowers, she could be here by next week or the beginning of the following week. Please help me with raising the 5,000.00US for now, so she can be seen immediately when she gets here. This is our part that the hospital was asking for apart from the Insurance coverage. I am not asking for donors who donated to donate again, I am asking for new donors to get onboard with us and help us reach the goal of 5,000.00 by the end of this week. Again, if we can share this link with five thousand new people and have them donate Just a dollar we will exceed the 5000.00 dollars expectation. I was hoping and praying that my sister would have been here like a week ago, but the process for bringing an international person to the US for medical purposes is a very lengthy process, and very costly too. Again, I understand if you cannot commit. Yours prayers is always and highly appreciated!
Lastly, I want the donors to be aware that I am the one that will be withdrawing money from the gofundme account on behalf of my sister Sherlie. I have to make this disclosure to my donor for gofundme to allow me to make the transfer to another account.

I close by saying, stay bless and let's keep up the good fight!
