Courtney is cancer free, but still in need

"It’s impossible to fully convey the person that Courtney is through words alone. I can’t capture the force of her magnetic personality, how brightly she lights up a room just by walking in, just how vibrant her strength of character is. The things that make Courtney Courtney are best experienced in person. Her artistry, her sense of style, her unwavering humor. I’m honored to call her a friend.

And now my friend has breast cancer.

She’s navigated some of the worst things that life can throw at you and come out stronger than before. Her inner light has pierced through challenges that no one should have to face. And she’s faced them all, fighting not just for herself but for others as well.

While I have no doubt that Courtney is up to this new challenge, she shouldn’t face it alone. When life gets dark, I want Courtney at my side to get me through it. Those who know her would agree, she’s a force of nature and she’s stronger than this diagnosis. We’re asking you to be a part of her victory over cancer." - Caitlin  Maloy

It is confirmed that cancer is bilateral, and now she is going through chemo therapy, and will be done at the end of October. The genetic results have come in and Courtney has Li-fraumeni Syndrome. It’s a genetic mutation from birth that makes cancer a higher risk factor. It has been found in other tissue in her body besides breast tissue. Because of the rare genetic mutation, undergoing radiation would actually put her at greater risk of another cancer happening. Since radiation is off the table, the only surgical solution is a bilateral mastectomy. That is scheduled for December 5th, with follow up reconstructive surgery as soon as possible after that.

Cancer is a huge financial burden, and Courtney is facing possible surgery, reconstruction, Chemo, Radiation, loss of work due to recovery and emotional healing. As her community there is not a lot we can control or help with, regarding making cancer go away. But we can take a huge burden off of her financially. I request you take the time to get out your debit card, and donate. If you can donate a small amount, great! If you can donate more, great! If you can donate on your next payday... you better be setting a reminder on your phone right now so you don't forget. This is a small act, with a big impact.
