In addition to bringing art to my community I also want to continue serving working artists. Moving my studio to Watertown and investing in my own equipment would allow me to provide more opportunities for artists like me, but with less experience, who are wondering where to even begin.
I imagine offering several services to help artists continue doing what they love. All ceramic artists are concerned about their main resource: kilns.
Kiln sharing is a program I plan to offer working artists in need. Several arrangements possible, where work can be schedule from drop off and pick up, or go through training to fire your work under my supervision.
My retail shelves will be filled with my own ceramic art, but also certain areas will be designated for other local artists. To spread the love for hand made objects to my community, I will need a variety of aesthetics; there is always a need for art which contasts my own. By providing a direct outlet for artists to sell their work, I keep my shop inventory fresh while building stronger relationships in the art community.
Gallery exhibitions are a key part of any artists' career. The community comes together during receptions to celebrate our achievements when we compose thought provoking exhibitions and displays. There is a need for more high-end fine art outside of Boston. Watertown is transforming. I believe this is the right moment to take advantage of this opportunity to share our art with the world, starting here in Watertown.
A classroom space with pottery wheels, slabroller, and large work tables will be available to those who want to learn. My studio could offer a small educational program where groups can glaze premade cups in one night, or make a piece from start to finish in several nights. There's potential for multi-week courses, or weekend time for those with experience.
Your donation will help me lease property for a clay studio. There is a need for about $35k in equpment, not including installation costs. I plan to regularly fire a small gas kiln, if permitted in the lease. Rent for my Watertown studio is over $4500 a month.
My dream studio is waiting for me literally around the corner. A new building lined with large windows with about 1500sq feet of space could easily house my kiln room, glaze lab, private studio, classroom space, retail space, and an art gallery. Main Street Waterown, a short walk from my home, has amazing visibility in the heart of the town center. This location is not cheap, however it is a brand new building, and in this town there's not a better rate for an equivalent property.
(Can you believe it's still available today?!)
Before, during, and after artschool my goal has been to own and operate my own studio and gallery. Today, I have 10+ years experience managing a ceramics program. All I want to do is work, share the experience with others, and make sure handmade art stays in the hands and hearts of my community. Your support would mean everything to me, and to all the artists I will support in return.
At this time my Go Fund Me profile is private due to conflicts at work. Please share my link however, share my story with any of your friends and family who may have no relation to my place of work.
For those who can support me- ART! I plan to send you pottery for particular dollar donations. Please feel free to browse my galleries at www.caitlynmarshceramicsstudio.com if you are interested in any specific pieces!
I attended a full-day workshop with mentors Laila Ali and Barbara Corcoran, two very successful business women. Discussions focused on Over Coming Fear, Time Management Skills, Marketing & Social Media 101, and Business Planning.
All 80 of us gathered at the Grand Hyatt Mid-town New York City. The accommodations were beyond my imagination! I got a chance to visit MoMA and see priceless fine art, as well as walk through Central Park at midnight.
It was an amazing experience to be selected from a written submission about my personal aspirations and lifelong dreams. You all know, which is ceramics and owning my own gallery/shop. So I have a few more tools in my belt, but there's still a LONG way to go.
But everyday I can check out the facebook Maxx You Project Workshop Women page and get inspired by the motivation and positivity radiating off these women.
So grateful, and looking forward to the next steps!
Attached are some images for the final artwork with the items they helped inspire. All the designs on the ceramics and the apparel & home decor and composed and selected by me- Vida does the printing.

VIDA features original, quality apparel, accessories, and home decór showcasing art from designers and crafters around the world. Partnering with the fashion world will hopefully create a positive change in my life, as well as other artists who have been granted this opportunity.
I designed all items from my own photography of my ceramic art. Through VIDA all artistic forms of expression can be printed on a variety of fabrics. Here you'll see my ceramic plates fired with layers of underglaze, latex and glaze combinations turned into tote bags, scarves and tops. Textured details of sculptural work and some of my recent graphic cups are included on pillows and pockets squares (for the fellas). Luckily I have been documenting my work for ages, and if this is successful, I can provide designs for years!
Take a look and remember VIDA next time you need a gift or something ABSOLUTELY original for yourself!
