Hiking in Gratitude For the YMCA!

I was a Fall River Firefighter for 28 years. One day in the fire station I read a small article in the travel section describing the Camino Santiago.The Camino Santiago is a 500 mile ancient pilgrimage across Northern Spain from St. Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.. The Camino Santiago became a Calling. On April 1, 2013 I made my first step on the Camino. I have walked three other ancient pilgrimages since. The Camino Madrid will be my fifth camino.

Two years ago I joined the newly beautifully refurbished Fall River YMCA. Entering the Y was a walk back in time.  A quick mental calculation, I realized more than 55 years ago I earned my Junior Life Guard Badge at the Fall River YMCA swimming pool which was a wonderful accomplishment. After fifty five years the Y is still providing swimming lessons, child care, after school programs, promoting Youth development, Healthy Living, and Social responsibility. This is a great organization, having withstood the test of time, and durable like granite, Fall River Granite. However even granite needs maintenance.

As a result of my walk back in time, I decided to utilize this gift I have ( walking 500 or more miles no problem ) to raise funds for the Fall River YMCA. This March I will walk from Madrid Spain to Santiago de Compostela.

I'm willing to mentor anyone interested in learning or possibly walking the Caminos. The Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago may have significant meaning for people in our area. ....
