North Alabama Is Helping SE Texas

$840 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 15 people in 10 months
North Alabama residents are familiar with natural disasters, as evidenced by the April 27, 2011 tornado super outbreak, which devastated several areas across much of North Alabama, as well as the April 28, 2014 EF3 tornado that ravaged communities in western Limestone County.

Having personally witnessed the extent to which aid from numerous churches, civic organizations and nationally recognized charitable organizations was directed to North Alabama in the wake of these events, I am spearheading this campaign so that North Alabamians can give back by raising funds to help school-aged children in those communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Many areas of SE Texas have received 40-60" of rain, and tens of thousands of people have lost everything.

I am Troy Rogers, and I live and work in North Alabama, and I was also born and raised here. I am a high school teacher of nearly twenty years, and since high school students and their well-being have been a concern of mine for many years, I specifically started this campaign in order to raise funds to buy new tennis shoes and school backpacks for students who attend schools in the Rockport-Houston corridor of SE Texas, where tens of thousands of residents have lost everything. All campaign funds will be used to purchase these two items, with 2/3 of all monies being used to buy new tennis shoes, and the remaining 1/3 being used to buy new school backpacks. You can help us in this endeavor, and you'll be making a major difference in a child's life. Any and all donation amounts are appreciated!

We will work diligently to raise funds through Tuesday, September 26, at which time we will end this campaign. We will withdraw funds after that date and partner with local shoe stores to purchase a wide variety of shoes and backpacks, spending every collected penny on shoes and backpacks, and we will personally deliver all goods by U-Haul/Ryder truck to SE Texas by the weekend of October 7-8, 2017. As that time nears, I will coordinate with agencies in SE Texas to determine which school/school communities are in dire need of the greatest amount of help, and I will both contact officials in those schools and arrange to meet up in Texas with administrators/counselors of those schools we select to receive our donations. We will meet at either the school sites themselves, or at school system offices or other designated resource distribution centers, as directed by local officials, in order to get these supplies to the proper school representatives for need-based distribution per their determination.

The campaign funds will be used exclusively for shoe and backpack purchases, and I personally will pay for U-Haul/Ryder rental fees, gas/oil, and hotel/meal costs associated with the roundtrip from North Alabama-Texas. No campaign monies will be diverted for any reason.

Thank you for your time and support! We need your help in coming to the rescue of our neighbors in Texas. No donation is too small!

God bless you!

I meant to write that we will deliver the shoes and backpacks to SE Texas in mid-October, not mid-November. Please excuse my misnomer.

The campaign has received $840 in donations for the purchase of shoes and backpacks for students in the Hurricane Harvey-battered regions of SE Texas. I will personally withdraw these funds to a Regions bank account in my name, then add all of these donations ($840) to other monies I have collected locally in the North Alabama area. I will then partner with local stores to purchase the shoes and backpacks to deliver to students in the Houston area in mid-November. I am partnering with one SE Texas high school to provide these items to students from that school, as I felt that we needed to focus on one group of people in need. Thank you so much for your generosity. With locally collected monies, I will be able to purchase approximately $7,000 worth of shoes and backpacks! I will post a final update once we deliver these items to students who have largely lost everything they owned. Thank you again!

We are at $640, and that's a fantastic start, but we still have quite some distance to cover! Thus, please consider helping us in this endeavor, and thank you for your support!
