Clean City Cooperative Start-up

$14,937 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 141 people in 15 months

As many of you know, I returned from Nepal a month ago after finishing my job rebuilding schools after the 2015 earthquake for the past 15 months. While working in Kathmandu, I was horrified by the overwhelming pollution and trash mountains lining the streets, rivers, national parks, mountains, virtually everywhere. In September, I spent 2 weeks trekking to Everest Base Camp, where I was devastated to witness the amount of waste surrounding the villages and littering the trails. Today, there is no organized waste management system in Nepal, and communities are forced to deal with all the trash on their own.

Something has to be done!

I was fortunate enough to meet an inspiring community of 5,000, which is actively organizing to clean their environment and build a waste management facility. They already purchased land to build the center, and have pledged to raise 25% of the costs.

Together, we have created a social enterprise, Clean City Cooperative, with the goal of empowering a community to embrace waste management.

Our vision is to help every community in Nepal build and operate its’ own waste management center, reducing the waste footprint by 90% and providing an economic vehicle for Nepalese people.

We are focused on creating viable jobs and empowering women by employing disadvantaged and marginalized women. By providing vocational training, we are helping women gain control of their lives and become financially independent members of society.

I would greatly appreciate if you would show your support for my cause and contribute any amount! I need your help in getting this plea out there to people that would care, so please spread far and wide. It’s a little village, but a big cause in my heart.

To be clear, this is not a 501c3.  Unlike a nonprofit, social entrepreneurship helps people help themselves. Our social business offers a hand up, not a hand out. While your donation is not tax deductible, I promise you that 100% of the funds raised will go directly towards start-up operations, as outlined on our financial page.  I will be leading the project at no cost to CCC.

As we all contemplate what we are thankful for this holiday season, I would be most grateful for your support in my endeavor in Nepal. Thank you!!!

Best Wishes,

Taylor

In the spirit of giving back this holiday season, consider donating to Clean City Cooperative to install a water refill station for everyone in Sauraha, Chitwan!

Earlier this week a dead sperm whale washed ashore in a national park in Indonesia with 6 kg (13 lbs) of plastic in its stomach. WWF Indonesia counted 115 drinking cups, four plastic bottles, 25 plastic bags and two flip-flops. A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute. Only 91% are believed to be recycled.

Clean City Cooperative is working to bring awareness to the major challenges surrounding waste management and plastic pollution.

We believe art is a powerful tool for social transformation. Over the past two weeks, Clean City has collaborated with the local community and travelers to bring about visual and social transformation to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic water bottles. Collective creativity thrives on the accumulated benefits of the synergy of all contributors – in this case, passionate locals, travelers, new friends, and 30 school children helped make this dream possible.

We encourage students to consider collaborative ways we can reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. This past week, we provided practical knowledge and distributed 50 cloth bags to demonstrate the importance of ditching single-use plastic bags at vegetable shops.

Right Now we are aiming to raise $2,000 to install a water refill station directly below the mural. Whether it’s $5 or $50, your support will allow us to provide a tangible solution in reducing plastic waste and continue to expand our programs that truly make a difference.

Consider supporting our work today by donating to https://www.gofundme.com/cleancitycooperative and visit our website for more info. Feel free to send this to like-minded changemakers.

Be part of the solution. Thank you!!

Best,
Taylor

WOW!!! Thanks to you, we did it! We made our initial goal of $10K!

Our community rallied and 95 people came together from around the world to fundraise $10,790. Overwhelmed by the love and support we've received through this campaign. 100% of the donations go directly towards starting this initiative in the beginning of the new year.

As I previously mentioned, this is not a 501c3. Unlike a nonprofit, social entrepreneurship helps people help themselves. Our social business offers a hand up, not a hand out. While your donation is not tax deductible, I promise you that 100% of the funds raised will go directly towards start-up operations, as outlined on our financial page (see details here: https://cleancitycooperative.com/financial-operations/).

That being said, I will be responsible for withdrawing the funds and bringing them to Nepal when I return February 5th. I will be working alongside my Co-founder, Bashu Dhungana, and local partners to ensure every dollar is being used according to the project's mission and vision.

Please follow along our journey by liking/following us on social media (Facebook, Instagram: Cleancitycooperative) or by visiting our website and subscribing to our newsletter.

You are creating a brighter, cleaner future and empowering the Nepalese people to change the status quo of waste. THANK YOU!

P.S. It's not too late to join our community of supporters! We are still reaching for 20K, and the last day to donate will be on Christmas day, before our campaign closes December 26th! Happy holidays!
